FYI, this was being used for the opinion that coffeeshops are NOT a big part of tourist's iteneray, except Americans, and therefore closing coffeeshops won't be that big of an impact on tourism income.

I live in Holland, in the east of the country. I visit numerous coffeeshops around the provinces every week to smoke and talk, in places like Enschede, Deventer, Zwolle, Emmen, Nijmegen.

On Saturday I decided to go out to my 10 nearest shops and spread the word about the 420 smoke out in Asterdam against Minister Opsteltens discrimination. I also wanted to find out how willing they were to discuss, what is pretty much inevitable now ie. the complete barring of foreigners from coffeeshops across the country.

Just to clear it up too, Amsterdam is part of the country, and does not have a fucking halo around it.

So i spent all day saturday, asking and talking to coffeeshop owners about the new additions to the coffeeshop regulations and how they would deal with them.

Guess what? They all, bar one, told me they didnt want to talk about it in the shop, as they dient want to scare clients away.

"dont worry, keep smoking" I was told by one coffeeshop owner.

Of course, it makes sense. Why would you scare people away before you need to?

Make no mistake, the coffeeshops are in denial about this.

And by the way, this pdf from the Grey Area that some are touting as the lost book of the bible, is from July 2011.

A hell of a lot has changed since then.

Things are changing fast here, and in Amsterdam too, its probably just too potentially damaging for the shops to admit it.

Amsterdam has a 1000 reasons why to over rule the law (already discussed) , the rest of holland has zero reasons, because 2000 members is enough for the locals. Amsterdam is all about the tourist, you cant say that for the rest of holland.

All i have ever said is that amsterdam is not in danger, the rest of holland of course is but that doesn't affect me as a tourist coming to dam.

regarding the other discussion my point is europeans mainly use amsterdam as a 3 day break, the rest of the world use it as a week long destination. So american & european tourists require different things due the traveling times. Europeans dont care about the coffeeshops maybe people from further a field do.

Makes sense why would a coffeeshop tell any possible customers that they should cancel their vacation. I wouldn't.

Or if you wanted to make $$ which every business does, you would spread the word like wildfire that the world has 12 months left to buy weed in dam, and start charging twice or three times the price for the weed as 1000's of people decend on dam for their "last smoke in dam"

I live 30 metres from the German border in Overijssel.

I watch Germans coming over the border past my house evry day to get high.

In all of the shops that would give me a straight answer in Enschede, they told me their clientelle was between 60-80% German.

Enschede also has every reason to overturn the law too. Without German stoners, other shop and businesses will surely suffer badly too.

So its not just Amsterdam that relies on tourism, I see that every day.
God, I cant even imagine what the town of Enschede will be like without the train loads of Germans coming every day to smoke great cannabis.

Grave times ahead brothers.

Overijssel is a classic example why some sort of dutch only law needs to be bought in the border towns, the germans are surely just fly & buys, so the only people benefiting are the coffeeshops, whilst the rest of the Overijssel locals are having to put up with having there local town ruined as its overun by drug smugglers! Overijssel 40 years ago presumably was a local dutch town and it has been transformed into something else which cant be right, the same cant be said for amsterdam.

That is also my understanding,Amsterdam may for the moment be in a position to "obstuct" the weed pass,but the rest of the country may struggle,there is enough info on this forum to suggest this.But although we all love the Dam,it would be a shame to ignore other parts on the NL,I do like visiting other parts of the country but I feel that in relation to visiting the coffeeshops in those areas that will be out of the question,this funnily enough does not mean that I will not be able to smoke the local product,it just means that it won't be done in a coffeeshop.

Overijssel is not a town my friend. Overijssel is a province of the Netherlands.

And if you lived on the border like I do, you would see that the coffeeshops tourists are not all fly and buys in any way. Most of them spend lots of cash here in the border regions in local shops, hotels and restaurants.

I dunno why I am replying to this anyway, you clearly have no idea what the real situation here is here, where I live.

I mean come on mate, you wanted to prove that the biggest cannabis and coffeeshop activist in Holland, Nol van Schaik, didnt have an idea about what is happening to his own business.

I said presumably, you have just said Overijssel is now full of germans buying weed, so it has changed!!!!!! Amsterdam has always been the capital and city centre!!!!! I have never said it hasnt changed but it has always been the number one tourist spot in holland, coffeeshops or no coffeeshops, Overijssel has never been a tourist destination amsterdam always has
