fair enough, its interesting that most agree the menu is average at best, but you go there for service alone.

Thanks for your tips USBL - but I'll stick to the shops I know - when you are next in town believe me the journey to bij and boerejongens is worth it, then you can take the goods back to your mecca and compare...

same here, only place ive ever mentioned it was greenplace on my last trip & that was after id been given a real nice bud of lemon ???, &thats only because inoticed the certificate on the wall, james is a king, on my last trip i spent nearly all my time there, tweede used to be my favourite cs, but basjoes has completely eclipsed them, as for the smoke, i rarely look at the menu, i just ask james for morocan, charas or grass, i let him give me what he wants & its always good

The Orange Bud, Jack Herer & NYCD (real stinky fuel pheno) have been about the best of those strains I've had anywhere in Amsterdam, did I mention I dont think I've ever had just a gram when asking for a gram of something?

same here ...

since i read this and the other comments about being part of the acd forum and going into basjoe, i have been thinking about how long i have been going there and what it was like on each different visit

my first ever visit was in summer 2007 and i certainly didn't mention the acd forum because i didn't even know about its existence then and wasn't yet a member

then i was very much a beginner in the world of modern marijuana though i had smoked since 1967 ... i recognised the thai and jamaican on the menu but asked for something in the medium strength range ... oh and both leo and james were on duty on the day

i got my bud and a coffee and went to the table at the front next to the window ... i smoked a wee something (jamaican from kashmir lounge i think) that i already had rolled earlier in the day just to get into the right frame of mind for exploring the mysteries of what i had just bought

before i had even crumbled the bud (by hand because i didn't know about grinders) and rolled anything leo walked by on his way out the door to clear the tables outside and he asked me how was my smoke ... i replied that i hadn't even rolled one yet and he laughed

on his way back in i was able to show him my first modern joint and he smiled (he usually had a great big smile on his face and a kind word to say about everything and to everybody)

finally i lit the thing and smoked it ... and it was fabulous ... not too strong and i knew i would still be able to walk and talk

i needed to get on and meet my partner for a visit to a museum nearby, so when i had finished the joint and the coffee i took my empty cup up to the counter ready to tell leo how much i enjoyed what i had smoked ... but he was busy, so i didn't get the chance to speak to him then, but i had enjoyed my visit very much and left a very happy smoker

it felt very much like being "in the house", a house with a very warm welcome ... and it hasn't changed since then

basjoe is not so much a coffeeshop, but more a café of the classic kind ... there is nowhere else i would rather be if i had some free time and wanted to be with "friends" even where i knew nobody in the place ...

as regards the menu, whatever i have had from basjoe has been in perfect or near perfect condition for preparing by hand and smoking pure

it's a great place, i love james and i miss leo ...

Bizarre. What I find strange about this James guy is that he barely acknowledges you.

When I've been there, he just sorta grunts and mumbles occasionally. It's very hard to get a word out of him.

Seems he makes his mind up very quickly as to whether he likes a person or not. If he does, he's a great guy. If he doesn't, he shuns you like a mormon punishment!

5 yrs ago i was sitting outside with the mrs, i was completly monged and got up and wandered off without paying my bill.. about 4 hrs later we arrived back and in i goes, james never even mentioned it, but i asked how much i owed him, he then started argueing over the amount, i reaconed about 15e, he said 5. i paid him and when we were leaving he called me back and gave me the biggest gram of bas special ive ever seen 8) .

like some people said , not the biggest or most modern menu in the dam, but always consistantly good, same with the service

Asked to show us the Terminator, to which he put a lil bit on the end of his J. Then he starts laughing and acting a lil crazy- was well funny.Reminds me of a friend back home :D

Never rated this place before, dont know why.

I remember another friend got something from their hash menu about 4 years ago. Cant remember exactly, but swear it was all the orange hairs, it came in a test tube. Very tickly, shame I cant recall more.
