Nol van Schaik and Peter Lunk are being very vocal on FB about their support for the SP party in the upcoming elections in the Netherlands. A good number of coffee shops are behind them in this.

Apparently the party have confirmed that they will abolish plans for the Wietpas, and possibly go one step further in legalizing marijuana in the Netherlands.

The SP party are already making press statements about how the Wietpas will have dreadful consequences for street crime in Amsterdam, and will result in millions of euros from lost tourist revenue.
(Yeah I know we already knew all this stuff!!)

I'm English and can't speak Dutch so relying on internet translations much of the time, but this does seem to be the party for us to get behind if we want the Wietpas to die a death. That said, I do appreciate the Dutch have other things to consider in choosing their Government.

But let's get behind the SP party as best we can and see if we can't get rid of the Wietpas once and for all. Thanks.

Sounds great on the face of it. But these days that policy and thought by itself would of cause not win the election. The party would have to make sure all there main policies and pledges for the election are popular vote winners with the people. But all parties on the other hand to balance the good policies will then have to have some unpopular policies to. It will simply come down to who will offer the people the best balance of good and bad and not a single policy will win any party an election. Politics, don't you just hate it!

Finally got to the end of this thread.. phew.
I'm living in Eindhoven and I went to the town hall offices with my passport & 8 euro to get a certificate saying I'm living in Eindhoven. It's stamped and signed and has my BSN number on it.
Now I can take this with my bank card to my ONE coffeeshop of choice and I don't know if I need anything else.. haven't done it yet. The whole big brother thing is getting to me, so I'm holding off... I will not be able to buy weed with cash, all purchases must be done with bank card, so they are tracked. The police will have access to this 'junkie list' ... and possibly health insurance companies... and WHO ELSE?! You are allowed to buy 5g per day max, but it's not worth buying for someone else because then you can get caught for dealing AND all the transactions are then listed in your bank a/c and in the 'junkie list' so big brother can see what your usage is... NO THANKS!!

p.s. The Grass Company in Tilburg decided to ignore the Pass and refused to adhere. The police closed them down for six months. All branches.
In Eindhoven, New Wave and Grasshopper are closed for having too much weed on the premises.

It's not only the wietpas, you know. If you have an 'anonymous' OV-chipkaart for public transport, try topping it up with cash rather than a card. It's not easy in Amsterdam, and it's not actually possible outside major cities, to my knowledge. Now this is an annoyance to those of us without bank accounts in euros, because it means that every transaction costs an extra £2 or so, but it's more than that – if you use your card once, they can track your movements whenever you use your chipkaart. I know they're not actually paying particular attention to me at this point in time, but it's still a disturbing idea.

Do you own a mobile phone?

i find it very easy to top up my card i just go to the gvb office (ifo centraal station)
grab a number an wait 5 min give them 30 euro and im all done, usually in and out with in 5 min

Well, yes. But compare that to getting a top-up on your Oyster card pretty much anywhere in London, at newsagents/supermarkets/convenience stores.

Apparently there are machines that take cash in Metro stations, but I'd prefer to have a real person take my money and top it up, in case something goes wrong with the procedure. And those new cards can be rather buggy.

I haven't tried to top up my anonymous OVchipkaart yet, but I'm told the NS office in Eindhoven train station will top up anon cards with cash.
I don't have a bank a/c so no personalised OVchipkaart.

Just found out both my neighbours have the weedpass. And they said they get accosted all the time when they leave the coffeeshop, by non registered ppl wanting them to go back in and get them some weed too. Of course they can't if they already bought their 5g.

I can see ppl getting mugged for their weed after they are out of the coffeeshop...

Why dismantle an "infrastructure" that works , brings in money and tourists , employs people , is well regulated and keeps street crime down.?
