Applying Michelin Restaurant Method to Amsterdam Coffee Shps

Post by TwoCanucks »

I was thinking about all the different kinds of opinions you get from people on coffee shops, and thought why not apply this method for restaurant ranking.

Quoting from the website:
http://www.3starrestaurants.com/default.asp

Michelin only gives four types of recognition to restaurants:

three star (the best)
two star
one star
bib gourmand (sub one star)

There is a...“rising star” rating...for certain places that aren’t 3 stars yet but might be one day

Now this would apply only to the actual marijuana that is available for purchase at any given shop. It does not take into account the service, location or interiors of the shops...just the overall quality of the herb that is served.

So I propose a 3 Star Weed Ranking List for coffee shops.

3 Star - Exceptional Herb, worth a special journey.
Riser - Not quite 3 Star just yet.
2 Star - Quality smoke, worth a detour.
1 Star - Good product almost always.
Sub Star - If everywhere else is closed, stop here.

My rankings based on shops visited.

3 Star - Exceptional Herb, worth a special journey.
Homegrown Fantasy
Barney's
Basjoes
Grey Area

Riser - Not quite 3 Star just yet.
Rookies
Little Shop
420 Cafe
Amnesia
The Dolphins
Mellow Yellow
Ben Shop
Stix

2 Star - Quality smoke, worth a detour.
Katsu
Twede Kamer
Greenhouse
Dampkring
Rokerij
Softland 1
Bluebird

1 Star - Good product almost always.
Coffee Shop Smokey
Prix D'Ami
Double Reggae
Noon

Sub Star - If everywhere else is closed, stop here.
Bulldog
Popeye

Obviously, I am quite stoned so please flame away at will ;) ;) :))

lol

heyo!

Obviously SMOKE is top rating criteria .
BUT bathrooms , service , friendliness and knoledge of staff , layout and ambience of shop , min buy-outside smoke allowed should all be taken into consideration ; no ?

I would say anything 2 stars or higher (which Katsu is) are great shops. Thats what it said above "worth a detour".

This rating is purely for the smokeables and has no regard for the actual shop. It's meant to guide the buyer to the best possible quality strains not service or atmosphere.

I would put Bluebird in the 2 star shop. Move Katsu up to 3 star, and throw Paradox in there too. I would also put Picasso up as a 2 star.

from my past experience in Amsterdam Tweede Kamer and The Dampkring always served us the best bud in town no doubt.

Picasso and Paradox are on our list for next April, we haven't been to either as of yet.

I love this idea, and agree with most of your ratings. I would move Amnesia and MY up and HGF down, but considering that they are all in the 2-3 star range, I suspect that just has to do with which particular strains I tried at each place.

Michelin stars do usually take into account ambiance and facilities, and while I care most about the bud, customer service and ambiance perhaps deserve some weighting...

its true, they should really be in the same category Noon and MY since the smoke is essentially the same?

For that matter i'd say so should Amnesia and Barney's......they draw from much the same pot also i believe....keepin it in the family so to speak.

cool idea.

and i think if you include all the extras (ambience, friendlieness etc) this will get very hard as everyone likes different shit in each shop.

if we keep it just to bud. it will be easier for people to find the shops with good bud and then they can goto the shop they prefer to smoke in.

how come greenplace didnt get rated. there menu looks amazing and i hear many great reviews on the place. did you goto greenplace on your trip TC? its one of the main ones for me when i go in october

Sadly, Greenplace was not visited, we plan on rectifying that in April!

Yeah, thanks Cheese! I don't really care about anything other than the smoke... at the end of the day, the bells and whistles are nice, but you can't smoke ambience!
