Starbucks enters Dutch market
27/08/2009

Train passengers at Utrecht Central Station have been enjoying the world-famous coffee for the past few weeks and soon commuters at Amsterdam Central Station can follow suit.

Utrecht – Lovers of Starbucks coffee no longer have to travel to Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport for their caffeine addiction as the Seattle-based coffee giant breaks into the Dutch market.

Earlier in August, a Starbucks store opened at Utrecht Central Station – the first to be opened outside of Schiphol and Nike's headquarters in Hilversum.

Dutch Railways (NS) and Starbucks plan to open another store at Amsterdam Central Station in mid autumn where customers can also buy cakes and sandwiches in addition to the world-famous coffee.

Starbucks is not entirely new to the Netherlands - the first store opened in Schiphol in 2002.

Now, the coffee giant plans to expand in the Netherlands by opening shops inside train stations.

^ i have a macbook, iphone and i dont buy coffee from starbucks(i dont drink a ton of coffee in general, tea tastes better). i live in seattle..the home of starbucks to boot. i sometimes buy their ground expresso and bring it home and make it in my own machine though to be fair. i'll buy it from other stores though. i think the drinks they make at starbucks are nasty..full of syrup and crap. the only tasty things they make there are green tea lemonade and frapachinos..the former being MUCH better than the later. that said starbucks wont succeed in the dutch market i don't think.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

The Starbucks at the A'Dam airport sucks like most of them and the only thing that taste right at most locations is the green tea lemonade.

Starbucks is awful. Surprised it's taken them this long though, I'm sure I saw one in Malawi, Africa... could've quite easily been a rip off though, I saw a Tesco as well!

There are many Starbucks in the UK, tried them once, never again. The 'Costa Coffee' chain shops offer the best in the UK without doubt. Another good one is Boston Tea Party for their tea's but they only have 7 shops based in the west country UK. Costa coffee for me everytime, especially the ones with sofas and free wi-fi.

The coffee in the Netherlands is good. Really, you don't need to go to starbucks for a decent cappuccino.
