Perhaps in Florida due to the high number of Cubans, but in the 1980s the vast majority of American coffee was dishwater. Now, there is good coffee even in small towns. Starbucks did a lot to educate Americans on how coffee is made (with an espresso machine).bluelaru wrote:Marco wrote:Say what you want about SB but it changed the way Americans drink coffee. Prior to SB you had to drink weak-ass drip coffee. Now on every corner is a different shop (Starbuck and their competitors) with a real espresso machine.
There is a huge coffee culture that exists in the US that just was not there before.
Sorry Marco....I have to disagree
Different areas of each state drink more coffee then, other areas and or states....
Where I live....S. Florida....south....drinks more coffee then Tallahaassee.
in N. Florida.
we have....Mister Donut...Dunkin Donut...Tim horton ...Offerdahals
starbucks... and severl hundred latin coffee windows.
Mister....started in the 60....and is gone now
Tim Horton (CHL/NHL) started in 80 last one closed 2003
Also My Italian family heavy coffee drinkers.
Starbucks enters Dutch market
Are you saying good coffee (espresso type) was available through the US prior to the mass-marketing efforts of Starbucks? I can show you a case study from the Harvard MBA program that proves otherwise, but you would have to read at over a 5th grade level to understand it.bluelaru wrote:This show how Stupid you are MARCO

I agree with Kingdoc when he says that people only buy into the 'Friends' image. I only buy there as a last resort as their product in my view is watery and therefore, lacks taste. There's a Mr Frothy minivan type place close to Liverpool Street station that sells coffee opposite a SB branch. Mr Frothy lattes has a much better taste and you can view all the trendy types that step into SB.
I also think that Marks & Spencers and Waitrose do a much better latte than Starbucks, but thats just my opinion.
Slightly off topic, how do you guys pronouce latte? I've stood in queues where people say it as its spelt, others pronouce it as lar-tay. Just curious.

yea people pronounce latte funny. its like when im abroad(or just outside of the pacific northwest in my own country) raving about their farm raised SALLMOOOHNNN. funny stuff.

starbucks are the devil
it would appear that starbucks are on a crusade to stop the legalisation/decrim around the world, yes they may sell strong coffee ,but at what expense.
Staff at the worldwide coffee chain are banned from turning off a cold tap behind the counter at every one of its 10,000 branches.
Bosses claim the constant flow of water stops germs breeding in the taps. It means the shops waste about 23.4 million litres of water a day.
The corporate monster will continue to roll its way out across mainland europe and beyond(like it has done usa and here in the uk).
Are wegoing to have another macdonalds/kfc type thing where they pop up on every corner,i for one hope not.
RANT OVER.
