Most of you have missed the point.
The reason Starbucks is GOOD, is because it opens at like 6am.
Not everyone in Amsterdam is on European time, so if your like me your in town and looking for a coffee at 7am and can not find one anywhere.
I am personally VERY happy about this.

LOL, here in the PNW booze is so last century.
People do not drink like they used to, we have substituted coffee for liquer.
I know it must seem strange to you lot who are more concerned about passing laws that pubs have to use unbreakable pint glasses so there will be less disfigurments .....

Not my choice of Coffee by any stretch.
The POINT is they open at 6am as a chain, THAT is awesome for someone like my wife and i who do not sleep in, ever.
That and they actually sell large cups of coffee, not those tiny demitasse thimbils they sell in europe.

Hmm strange, I worked as a barista in an independent coffee chain called Tinderbox, who have a few shops in Glasgow and one in London. I worked across the road from Starbucks and we opened at 7am every morning. We had a lot of customers come in between 7-8 who worked on the street because we were the only coffee shop open that early. Starbucks didn't open till 8am. That was about 4 years ago though.

I love coffee, I loved my job as a barista, which is why it makes me rage quietly inside when I watch noobs fuck up perfectly good coffee at the last stage. I'm tired of asking for a cappucino and getting half flat milk and half a cup of foam, that disappears by the time you're at your seat. I watch people burn the milk to oblivion then wonder why it doesn't work for them. They don't even bother to swirl the milk in the jug before pouring, just hold back their bath-bubble foam with a knife or spoon and pour in the flat burnt milk underneath, wasting the taste of perfectly good coffee.

I wish they would train baristas properly before letting them loose on a coffee machine. Personally I find the best chain to be Cafe Nero.

Yes, i was camped out at there door every morning when they opened at 730am ( 830 i believe on Sundays ? ).
They are the only one open at that time for litteraly blocks and blocks, even fucking Mcdonalds does not open until 10am in Amsterdam .
You are correct they have big cups of nice strong coffee at very un-Amsterdam prices ( ie reasonable ).
They seem to have a loyal following of North Americans who show up at opening every day, if they just opened an hour earlier it would be perfect.
As it is you can get your pale of coffee and by the time your done A.H. is open ( 8am ) and you can pop in and get some fresh hot buns for breakfast.

The best coffee in Amsterdam at the Koffie Salon

http://www.dekoffiesalon.nl/page=site.home

Two locations, one near Rembrantplein and one near Overtoom.
