Do stripenkarts still exist?

Just wondering with the new smart cards and everything coming in sounds like they are being phased out?

Yes, they still exist. People still use them in busses and trams. In the metro you have to use the digital card.

They still exist in most dutch cities.

However, from the end of August they are NOT valid on the Amsterdam Busses or Trams. You will need to pick up a new smartcard.

I stand corrected, it appears that its just the metro that wont take strippenkaart now.

You can use the OC Chipkaart on the Amsterdam trams though if you fancy trying soemthing new.

I did have lots of problems with GVU busses in Utrecht having faulty readers in August, I hope they resolve these quickly as It was a bit of a pain.

Buying the Chipcards on a tram or bus for short journeys is still more expensive (E2.60/trip or hour) than pre-purchasing strippenkarts (E7.20 for around 7 short trips), I'm finding strippenkarts harder to find in shops and they dont sell them on trams and buses anymore. My local Albert Hein has a vending machine for them, but it's always out of order).

Until the end of the year, strippenkaarts can still be used in Amsterdam buses and trams. As of August 27th, they stopped selling strippenkaarts.

Correction: Strippenkaarts can still be used on the trams until April 1st.

so in other words next time i go to amsterdam(august i hope) and get on a to have one of these new cards? cash still accepted?

You can use cash at a train station to buy the OV card. They sell them via cash at the train ticket counter at the airport. You cannot use cash on the little machines, in fact I am not sure they all take PIN cards.

I think people will grow to like the OV cards, they are very convenient and make getting on the tram much faster.
