It's finally here: Rezin Does Amsterdam Day 3 (Final Day)

Post by Rez »

Day 3 – Friday 17th March

We wake early (10am-ish) and prepare for the final day of our mini adventure. It only takes and hour for us both to shower, dress and check out of the Hotel, we leave our bags in the Hotel storage and head out into the sharpest, skin-piercing wind that Amsterdam had to offer, the sun was out but, damn it was Brass Monkeys mate.

We agree that after the Floyds breakfast yesterday, we should go to the only place we actually know (went there last visit) that serves a nice old fashioned English breakfast. €9.75 later and quickly digesting the feed, I rapidly make notes… Now like the stoner of the year award winner, I wrote the name of the restaurant as “Warsteiner”… I took this from above the menu on the outside of the building. It’s funny because later that day I saw another restaurant with the same name, on the same menu outside….? Odd ? lol So I have no Idea what the place was called but it was just by the flower market, about 3 or 4 shops down on the left heading away from Centraal.

We set our daily objective. We need to check-in at the airport at around 9pm so we decide a route and an end point, we plan on visiting: Grey Area, Amnesia, De Kuil, Homegrown Fantasy and Dutch Flowers (well that’s what my notepad says)…. I’m sure I had Tweede Kamer on my mind too

We decide get our bags before our final CS. We thought of the Bulldog in the square where the fella does the football kick-ups. That way the TAXI rank is just to our left and the airport is 20 mins away.

I also made a note to stop into Nes and meet DC.

So after a good breakfast we have a mission on our hands, first stop, Grey Area… after a fair walk we kind of stumble onto it, just as I get the map out for what I think will be the last time – having studied it so hard by my calculations we should be just about….”Oh Look, there it is”. I love this feeling, it’s like the 1st ever visit, only if it’s a CS you’ve not been to before though.

Grey Area was banged out. Brimming… almost over flowing: shock: Snap decision time, and having studied that map so hard I flip into auto pilot and like an educated ‘Dam’er I say “Amnesia”. After a brief walk I see the best sight I had this visit, I saw the front of Amnesia CS and after reading the reviews, seeing the pictures and gathering feedback on the forum, I was really very pleased to have made the effort to find this CS.

We go in and grab the first table to the right. If anything the chairs were a bit too close to the table and as they were big chairs I found it a touch tight getting seated… only to get back up to go order some coffee.

2 Lattes, some cool music, some remaining stash to smoke and I’m chilling in Amnesia. Sweet. I finished off the White Dolphin and as I became seriously mashed Paul attempted to teach me to play Backgammon. I’ve never played before and have no idea of the game in any way, shape or form. Taking into account the effects of the recently toked pipe-full of MF I’d just consumed, learning backgammon seemed kind of hilariously hard.

We’re high and ready to walk so next stop; Homegrown Fantasy. I can’t believe how close these CS’s are to each other (maybe now that we had a CS map, together with the fact that I am “The One” when it comes to map reading skills) but we had wasted so much time just aimlessly wandering and seeing what we found. Next visit will have real structure to it…

HGF was not really my style. Maybe because I liked Amnesia so much, HGF just seemed diluted or dare I say, Bland… We had a Coffee and as it was only just a short time since we smoked we chose not to smoke in HGF. Maybe we looked odd “Just” having our coffees, who cares…. 5 minutes pass and I can’t do it, I CAN’T sit in a CS in Amsterdam and NOT smoke MJ, NO WAY… All that’s left is the Mothers Finest (heavy Indica)… I hit the pipe and within seconds have a massive wave of negative thoughts… oh shit, I’m going to be fucked, I’m going to be so absolutely mashed up… From this point on I can’t remember much and my notes make no sense so this is where it all falls apart…

On the very next page the notepad says: “Just realised the MF is NOT a daytime smoke” then it says “Noon – Locals, Bar/Bud tender was surprised that we ONLY wanted coffee and no MJ” I do remember this… Noon was so far from HGF that I don’t know why we went there but I recall Paul dropping something to the hotel. Noon was close to the hotel. I was quite disappointed with Noon considering just how fucked I was and how far we went to get there. Noon was a small place with loud music and even louder “Yardie” style locals… that was my quickest ever coffee and we were back on our feet.
It’s all so blurry now; the Mothers Finest was killing me! My notes say “Rokerij, Super Rokerij Haze” Now I had to search the Forum and the ACD site to find out which branch of Rokerij we were in and it was the one at Elandscracht 53 but I can’t find that on the map so I have no idea where we were but I loved this CS. The toilets were well hidden behind a concealed wall. OK, I was wasted but this place had a certain coolness about it, one I liked. 2 More Lattes from the very smiley and polite young lady behind the bar. I went and had a quick look and the Menu and then went and sat back down… I kept being too rational. Why did I keep thinking that I should “hold off” with the smoking… So, back at the menu and while chatting to the dealer I explain what I’ve smoked and where from on this visit and what I liked. Trying to set a High standard for him to at least compete with he recommends the Rokerij Super Haze.

Now, this bud smelt pine like and citrus like and fresh. Man it was nice. I had to keep stuffing my nose in the bag because it smelt so good. When I crumbled it into the pipe it crumbled well, I thought it may have been a little dry but the smell when crumbled was 10 fold on the first smell… I just had to smoke it and now… the pipe is loaded and I’m tokin away, I like it but why am I getting bits in my mouth, I’m not enjoying this, something’s gone wrong… The engines on fire captain and we’re loosing altitude… fast. Co-Pilot Paul asks why I have a new pipe screen on the table and does that have anything to do with the shit in my mouth… as the penny drops I start digging out the half burnt bowlful of Haze.

New screen and a reloaded (topped up) pipe and its “Ignition” 3… 2… 1… Blast off!!

I was high. I was so high I thought I was going to float up into the air... My head was spinning and buzzing and my visuals and hearing was all going haywire… I sat in that seat just looking around, mumbling thinks like “I’m so fuck man” and “wwhhhooohhh-eeeeeeeyyyy” and also “BBBrrrrrrrrGGGhhhh” like I had just come in from the cold. Why, I have no idea but I was having a blast man.

The notepad is getting worse by the minute. All it says is “I don’t know what I’m doing”, “Pick up bags” and “Smoke last of Mothers Finest and Super Rokerij Haze in Bulldog b4 cab to airport”

So this is what we did. Got our bags and sat in the bulldog until just before 8pm. We finished the stash before getting into the cab for the airport. I was utterly destroyed by the time we got to the airport and as we were on our homeward journey, our last smoke had been had and I was already on a downer… it stopped the high being as good as it could have been.

I followed Paul around like a child who’d been told off by his Dad… We arrived back at London – Luton at around 11.30pm GMT and My Dad took us back to his house, where my van was.

I had a nonsense conversation with my Mum, picked up my dog and set off to drop Paul home and finally get to my house.

I got home around 12:30am had a chat with my wife, went and had a big old UK skunk-filled pipe and sat on the sofa dreaming about 44hours - 10 Coffeeshops - a gram in each - NOT POSSIBLE, how I would write it and how it would be read.

I wrote it, you took the time to read it… Thank you

There was lots I did do and lots I didn’t do… that’s the thing about Amsterdam, I have to go back to add the next chapter to the adventure.

 ... nope, we never made it to see DC @ Nes. "The Book" was not up and running then so other than the free spock Joint, Nes was just another CS... now though, Nes is my No 1 CS to visit... probably my 1st stop and last stop for next visit and maybe we'll stop in during the visit too...

Live long and prosper

Nes is one shop that should definitely not be avoided and not just because DC works there. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful at all times even though I treated the place more like a pub than a coffeeshop.

By the way Rez, well done on finally completing your write up. It was worth the wait.

Cool, and very funny report!

My friend's and I have a line that signifies tht someone is having a problem.

It's the classic line from the movie Apollo 13:

"Houston, we have a problem."

Thats just such a classic line... I've used it a few times but for me (like in the film), when I say that, it's usually when I'm at the embrio stage of a seriously stoned experience... ... about as stoned as one can be whislt remaining concous

... so it's quite often a line I use

Nice final report Rez. Looks like that 44 hours went very well. Maybe we'll hook up next year, at the annual ACD 420 hook-up. AzLaker

Cheers guys/girls...

4:20 2007 is penciled in my mental diary. More importantly, I'm desperately trying to figure out when I can get back there.

May 20th = my birthday, might be too soon as was there mid March. But Wed 17th/Thur18th/Fri19th sounds real good.
May 28th = My son's 13th Birthday.

June = We have a massive (expensive) garden party to celebrate my wife's birthday. Her actual birthday is 25th Dec but it always get overpowered by Christmas. hence the June garden party.

July = Step son's 13th Birthday

August = I got a week off with the kids (school summer holidays)

Sep.... mmm, could be.

Oct = My best friends birthday and he really wants to go...

Soon, Soon...

Another nice one, and very stoney!

Dig the way you guys make the most of yourlast hours. Amnesia is a great hang, but I agree about the couches. Shame you didn't make it to Nes though.

Seems Nes is quickly becoming "The" official ACD Coffeeshop. With good reason. Look forward to signing the book and flashing a Spock, not to mention smokin' fine gear, drinkin' stout brews and savouring every f'n moment.

Thanks for takin' the time.

I'm working on some material to do some "stand up"... there is a pub near me which has an Open Mic session and... well I do have quite a sense of humur and a way of telling a story... I never knew though, just how much wriiten prep work and learing of lines goes into 5 minutes of stand up.

watch this space.
