California Legalization Ballot Measures

Post by Larry »

California has some marijuana legalization ballot measure petitions that are gathering signatures starting this last week. Petition circulators can earn $0.70 for each valid signature they gather.

There's three (plus one not yet certified) petitions circulating right now. It takes some 433,000 signatures to get them on the ballot which would be November 2010 at the earliest. Of the three two seem the most serious with lots of money behind them.

#1374 is sponsered by a lawyers group and sez it'll be OK to use, share, cultivate, and transport for those over 21. It mandates the state to adopt laws to implement this. You could cultivate reasonable amounts for personal use. There's a not within 500 feet of a school requirement.

#1377 is sponsered by Oaksterdam and patient ID (company that issues medical marijuana cards) You could posses (sp) up to an ounce and cultivate up to 25 square feet. No smoking in public and only for over 21 years old. OK to tax. Sales only by liscensed premises.

#1378 repeals prohibition on use, cultivation, possesion, transportation, and sale. it allows the taxation of cannabis.

http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm has the complete text of these ballot measures.

I see that there's another measure sponsered by Jack Herrer that hasn't been certified yet. I read where he was very upset about the taxing provisions sponsered by the marijuana millionaires- #1377
