Yes I stayed there in 1998 it was ok from what I can remember great location just of Dam square plenty of good coffee shops and bars within easy walking distance.
I think we had a very good price for the room at the time as well.
Had a room for 3 people which was ok apart from the ensuite shower room, which was tiny and had a pull down shower tray which when pulled down, made the space in the ensuite very tight.
This was a problem for one of my friends he's 6'3 and he weighed about 27st at the time so you can imagine he had trouble in there, made for plenty of banter on that trip though lol.
The room we had was facing the street and did get a bit noisy but nothing major.
You should have a great time, enjoy.

I've stayed on two occasions. On the first time I went during off-season and got a twin room for myself for quite cheap. Great room, nice bathroom too. The last time, this July, I got a tiny little room just above the noisy street level, and unsurprisingly the bathroom & shower space were tiny... the point I'm trying to make is it's not the best option for a pothead travelling alone but they do have very nice rooms too.

There is a separate GK hotel for smokers just a stonethrow away, but I haven't ever been there.

Had a single non smoking room the first night - adequate. Wasn't about to waste my time away in a hotel anyway.
Rest of the time shared a triple smoking room with friends. Adequate size, great location, tiny balcony (big enough to stand outside watch amsterdam and smoke). Bathroom great size. A few doors away from the main Hotel. Friendly staff. I would stay here again.

This Hotel was great.

Stayed in it through DFDS had a 3 person room and it was very spacious you wanna pray you are on the top floor as the smoking area on the roof is very nice lovely view of the Amsterdam roof tops. Ignore comments from peeps who went 10 years ago I stayed last June this year and it was v v nice. Also breakfast included and v helpful staff, incredible location honestly couldn't fault it on any level.

This is the 1 of the hotels that I have used most often on my visits to Amsterdam. Hotel De Gerstekorrel is very close to Dam Square and very reasonably priced for the location. The rooms are very clean and I have always had a good sleep when staying there.

I would not recommend this place if you have difficulty climbing as the stairs are very steep in these old buildings.

They also have a storage room which has a camera on it if you need to leave your luggage after checking out.
