Hardrock Cafe.

Post by Ghost »

Foods f.....ing exspensive but very large.

You can have a stater of 8 potatoe skins,or 8 wings which is enough for two people.Or the mix combo for 4 and that is most probably all you will need as it is f...ing huge. Watched a couple struggle to eat this, they didnt finish it, and then they left.

I had potatoe skins which i wolfed down followed by a bacon cheese burger, it was a struggle but i just managed it all, washed down with a couple of pints.

The wife had pig bun which she couldnt fit in her mouth, and she didnt finish it.

Worth a look if you got a spare bit cash, was my anniversary(kept her appy)

all they do is put stuff into an oven or deepfry it. why would you pay such a ridiculous amount of money for "food" that is well worth 2 euro or less? :D

In the end i did 58e between 2 with drinks, couple beers and lemonades, so wasn't really that bad with the 2 courses each aswell.

Mind you had a Big Mac the next day and tasted just as good, if not better so there you go :?

Same here, geoff. I go for Dutch cuisine while in the dam. There's this one little brown cafe' that mostly locals go about a block from the Prinsengracht at Lindengracht and Brouwersgracht, called Thijssen.

It has wonderful bitterballen and AWESOME asparagus and brie soup. The flavors of the soups change pretty much daily, but that was was particularly outstanding. I've never had a bad meal there and it's very reasonably priced - thus all the locals lol I tend to look for the places the locals go... almost always better food in my experience.

how poor is dutch cuisine to consider bitterballen as such actually? :D
dutchpeople are and were very reasonable and saving people. that is why typical dutch dishes are poor mans food. they are mostly stews and hotpots. for example "stampot met andijvie" this just is mashed potatoes with carrots and endive. another typical dutch dish is snert, which is a purree soup made of peas. nowadays those dishes are not fashionable anymore, but they are so dutch. this also is the reason why dutch chefs tend to apply the french style instead of working out there own.
btw, asparagus should only be eaten from april till june, cause that is the only time when they are harvested freshly. otherwise it is out of a can or even worse a concentrate.

I have nothing against poor men or their food. In fact, I'd rather have french fries than foie gras, to be honest. I'm looking forward to trying that pea soup as I love vegetables and have yet to try stampot, another I've read about. I tried bitterballen on purpose as I like to experience everything I can relating to culture and I found it to be good, when I didn't expect to really like it. The Dutch have the best cheese by far, to me and I'm a potato lover. I suppose my tastebuds fit in quite well over there.

I know about the asparagus, that's why the pub had it in May - quite fresh and the best soup I've ever had in my life.

Cheers

I always make the best meals when it's near the end of the month and I'm trying to use up what food I've got. I see the Dutch stews in a similar fashion.
