If you get a chance you should try it. Another thing they do with it is add salad cream when eating salads/summer meals.

Well I'm a natural food kinda guy, so I use Lemonaise instead. I like the one with chipotle.

Never had it, how different is it than mayo? I can't get that stuff where I live, saw it when I was back in MI visiting the fam though. I break my own rules when it comes to sweets. I love Ritter Sport.

Dude it is to mayonaise what Michael Jackson is the rest of the Jacksons, from the same stock but so much fucking different. Except in the case of salad cream, its in a good way.

Whats Ritter Sport?

I see, we'll maybe I'll give it a try if I ever see it. Ritter Sport are German chocolate bars. Mass produced, but I'm a sucker for the butter biscuit version

dutchpeople are and were very reasonable and saving people. that is why typical dutch dishes are poor mans food. they are mostly stews and hotpots. for example "stampot met andijvie" this just is mashed potatoes with carrots and endive. another typical dutch dish is snert, which is a purree soup made of peas. nowadays those dishes are not fashionable anymore, but they are so dutch. this also is the reason why dutch chefs tend to apply the french style instead of working out there own.
btw, asparagus should only be eaten from april till june, cause that is the only time when they are harvested freshly. otherwise it is out of a can or even worse a concentrate.
I have nothing against poor men or their food. In fact, I'd rather have french fries than foie gras, to be honest. I'm looking forward to trying that pea soup as I love vegetables and have yet to try stampot, another I've read about. I tried bitterballen on purpose as I like to experience everything I can relating to culture and I found it to be good, when I didn't expect to really like it. The Dutch have the best cheese by far, to me and I'm a potato lover. I suppose my tastebuds fit in quite well over there.

I know about the asparagus, that's why the pub had it in May - quite fresh and the best soup I've ever had in my life.

Cheers
i dont have anything against poor mans food either, it just is something that keeps me wondering. if you look at other country's poor mans food like paella or bouillabaisse, you see that those dishes have developed into haute cuisine, whilst the dutch did not have this progress.
if you would like to have a recipe on snert or other great vegetable soups like german potatoe soup, just tell me.
just one last thing on bitterballen, this really is the worst of the worst. it is mixed leftovers from beef, pork, chicken and horse meat. mostly the stuff that cant be used otherwise like gristle etc.
