One of the best things about Amsterdam is that there are hardly any McDs. There are none in the part of town I live in, in fact there are no fast food chains at all.. nice one!

I thought there was quite a lot of McD's in Amsterdam, especially for the small size of the city.

Maybe I've just never been to the part of town that has them all. I think I've seen three in total in the city, and they're all in the touristy kind of shopping areas. Haven't come across any of the big chain fast food stores in the part of town I live in (the Jordaan), not even along the Haarlemerstraat or anything which I think is nice :)

I tend to agree. They can smell out an area in a city pretty bad, I think.

Yes, Somerset (cider country), but directly on the Devon border too. There are more home-made pasty shops especially in Devon and parts of Somerset than Cornwall as they have edged their way up to cater for the influx of tourists in the summer months. Devon is famous for clotted cream teas which is a pot of tea and a side plate of a huge dollop of cream and strawberry jam on scones, which all the tourists want as well. I see an insane amount of Dutch in my area in the summer months, what with their NL car number plates giving it away, they seem to love this area I'm in.
