Private members coffee shop
Private members coffee shop
As many of u already know, I`m currently in the process of opening my own private members coffee shop. I have the venue, just finishing off furnishings. I`m getting many ideas of what members want and don`t want from the many reviews of dutch coffee shops I have read. So far it has soft furnishings and a table, just after a couple of chairs. I take my influences from coffee shops I have visited.
The Music background includes dub and reggae, a table with a ganja flag, a sofa with a ganja throw and a neon ganja High Life light which hangs on the wall which I am waiting 2 be delivered. As most of u already know the opening times will be 11.00 am till late. There will be no marijuana 4 sale on the premesis, people will bring their own, no drugs. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be served as well as a selection of snacks ie crisps. Theres a few marijuana magazines 2 read ie Weed World the TV will be on mute on the sky sports news channel.
Thats about it really, the coffee shop will be open in early june after I get back from Amsterdam, members that come will be able 2 share their experiences of Amsterdam and discuss coffee shops, weed, etc and hopefully come and have a good time. Thanku for the free advertisement coffeeshopdirect and see u all soon.

I did not know this.Tommy G wrote:As many of u already know, I`m currently in the process of opening my own private members coffee shop.
Congrats and please keep us informed as to where, when, etc. etc.. I'm intrigued and would love to hear more about what is required for membership.
Continued Success!
Hi there. Silly me I forgot 2 mention where it is. Its in a small village in Derbyshire where I live. Its not a commercial premesis its a flat that I`m transforming in2 a small coffee shop. I would like a commercial premesis eventually but u know u gotta start somewhere.
As 4 members, well I was gonna pluck my members from people on this forum. As its not a busy forum I guess every1`s welcome. I`ve been reading this forum 4 a while now any the people seem decent and we all have things in common and every1 will have fun meeting in each other and having a smoke and discussing their experiences of Amsterdam.
Thanx 4 the interest and any more questions don`t hesitate 2 ask.

Being Tommy's brother & living in the same village, he has enlisted me to help run the members club. The club will probably be called High Life, though no definite decision has been made yet. Membership will be free, there will be no weed sold on the premises, it is a Bring Your Own & Share facility.
A small charge will be made for all drinks & snacks bought & consumed on the premises, & any money made will be put towards hopefully commercial premises in the future. In a few weeks we will put a drinks menu up on this forum, & obviously if you require any further info, please private message or e-mail either myself or Tommy & we will give you info such as location, directions etc...
It goes without saying really, but as this is a private members club open only to members of this forum who personally request a membership, we would appreciate if you kept the details of the club, such as location etc, to yourself, just as a precaution. The members of this forum seem like a pleasant, friendly bunch, & we just don't want our details passed on to anyone who may be somewhat of an unsavoury character.
So what is the purpose of High Life? Basically, it's something Tommy has been wanting to do for a while now that can recreate the Amsterdam Coffee Shop ambience in the United Kingdom. We are not in it to make money (only to cover costs, anything else is a bonus & like I said, extra profits will go towards a *Touch Wood* more suitable, commercial premises one day). This club is for members of this forum to meet up, make friends, have a smoke & chat about Amsterdam in comfortable surroundings. For those in the UK, High Life would be a fantastic place to visit for the day if, say, you could not afford to visit Amsterdam itself for a while, wheras for foreign vistors from America for instance, it would be a nice place to stop off at on the way to Holland, I know that many transtalantic flights these dayus have stop-overs via England to Amsterdam, there's plenty of websites that can arrange suitable flights in order to visit more than one country.
Like Tom said, it will not be till early-June at the earliest when we can start accepting memberships & inviting you all to the premises, but I am pleased to see that some of you are already showing an interest, so if you'd like to know more, please get in touch.

Tommy & I are dead chuffed that there are already a couple of potential members & well-wishers for this venture. We want to keep it as informal as possible, almost like sort of a "drop-in" kinda place if you're in or around our area, but obviously the membership part of it all is vital, as we don't want any old chav off the streets lurking around thinking he can scrounge a free smoke & a place to keep warm all day!
As neither Tom nor I work full-time, the good think about the High Life members coffee shop is that at least one of us will always be on hand, so if you are travelling here from quite far, you needn't worry about there being noone there to greet you (if such an unlikely occurance was to happen, obviously we'd get in touch with you well beforehand to let u know, u never know when emergencies & the suchlike can take place...). I myself have a 2-year old daughter whom I take care of when her mother is at work, so I won't be around 100% of the time, but I live in the same village as Tommy, & have plenty of free time to help with High Life.
So thanks to all who have wished us well or asked for info, Tom & myself will give you further information about the venture in due course...

Is it me or does this idea sound shite,2 dudes letting ppl smoke dope in there 'flat'
At best it sounds like 2 geezers who don't have any getting a free smoke off strangers. At worst it sounds like a totally shit idea that will get everybody's who is involved asses busted.
I don't wanna sound negative guys but the rest of the world will never have the attitude that the Dutch have.Certainly in the UK it is a total non starter .
Lets face it the peasants with the skip hats and the sovvy rings would fuckit for everyone.
I'm just wondering what age these dudes are cos there gaff sounds like a 17 yr olds stereotypical vision of a coffeeshop.
A rasta and reggae nightmare vision.
EG two dudes in a Rasta room waiting on a free smoke.
Sorry if i sound a bit harsh but someone else must be thinking the same.
Commercial premises off crisp sales.
lol

Hi Moby
Maybe it does sound like a bad idea when u put it like that. It definetly wasn`t a way 2 get a free smoke, as I said in another post I have a decent hook up all ready and am currently smokin some excellent sativa Jamacain Pearl.
I think after your post I am gonna wait until I get some commercial premesis. The last thing I had on my mind was 2 get every1 busted which u said will happen.
And another thing Moby, what music did u want 2 listen 2, some Moby or maybe some heavy metal.
Oh yeah and 1 final thing I`m not 17 I`m 28.
But thanx 4 your concern anyway dude and I don`t need a steriotypical vision of a coffee shop, I have visited a few, in Amsterdam and in this country.
The ideas off anyway as this proves u only need 1 bad egg 2 spoil things 4 every1 else.

Moby makes some valid points regarding getting busted, but I think it was unfair of him to call the whole idea shite & that we're just a couple of 17 year olds hankering after some free smoke.
I myself am 25 & a father, & I don't appreciate being thought of as either immature or someone on the cadge. Valo was spot on when he said that we wanted to bring some Amsterdam culture to the UK, & I don't think the prospect of any sovereign & Burberry-wearing chavs coming to Tommy's flat was even in the pipeline, being that the members club is exactly what it says on the tin: for MEMBERS ONLY.
Tommy & I would not open his doors to anyone whose trust we had not gained previously via this forum, which would involve members of High Life not being permitted to bring along family or friends unless they had applied for membership seperately.
However, I appreciate you bringing to my attention the potential downsides, though listening to reggae & dub isn't one of them, my friend! I myself am into all kinds of music, but some of it would be highly unsuitable for a relaxing smoking ambience. Listening to reggae whilst high may be a cliche, but there's a reason for that: namely that the genre goes well with a smoke. And besides, we're not talking about playing crap like Sean Paul, Pato Banton or Shabba Ranks, Tommy & I prefer decent reggae & dub like King Tubby, Augustus Pablo & Eek-A-Mouse to name but a few.
This is the friendliest forum I am a member of, & I hope Moby will respect that next time before he begins to make unneccesery comments that may be deemed insulting or offensive.

Hats off to your response JSB. It shows maturity and good judgment. As you say this is a friendly and informative forum. It's pointless to get dragged into some futile argument because of someones careless and derogatory comments.
