I got my card!

...well at least my temporary paperwork. So, I thought I'd share my experience with ya'll:

I made a few calls and tried to find a clinic that would allow me to see a doctor in-house and be able to purchase my medicine the same day. I found one and made my appointment, at 4:20  I arrived, went in and found the place decorated kinda hippy style with buddha statues and stuff like that, not too cheesy and it made a relaxing atmosphere. At this time there were only women in there, younger women on staff and some older grayer haired ladies waiting to see the doctor and/or pick up medicine. After filling out paperwork, it was my time to see the doctor. She reviewed the forms I filled out, took my blood pressure, heart rate, etc and then took a peek at my surgeon's notes. I've had two surgeries, one ending in arthritis on my knee. This qualified me for the pain category on the checklist of qualifications. After discussing how much pot helps with pain and how I can't stand the pain pills I had been on, she lead me out the door and I filled out more paperwork in order to have this dispensary be my temporary caregiver. Now it's obvious that the dispensary would love to be my caregiver, I did not elect them to be. Though they give discounts on medicine, massages and that kind of stuff. When that last batch of paperwork was filled out, I was lead back to the actual dispensary. They had I think just under 10 varieties to chose from, no hash as I asked. They had some edibles though. I've seen buds from another dispensary and they appear to have been shaken. In fact, I know of one local dispensary that will "re-kief" your buds, at least that's what I was told. This makes me think they've shaken your buds and will put the kief back on for an extra price. I'll be staying away from them. OK back to the medicine: I picked up Afghan Goo (indica) and asked for some SSH, what they had was an SSH cross called Silver Surfer. I was told the cross was something Hawaiian, though the dispenser couldn't remember. I also picked up some Orange Crush (sativa).

The whole experience was pretty surreal and had me "tripping" the rest of the night. I was back and forth on registering or not. In the end I decided to do it as the state was about to change regulations in the next year and I thought it'd be nice to have access if I was out of town and out of bud. Also, it seems that this business is very good for the local economy. Besides creating jobs, the dispensaries are paying taxes. I don't think, given our current economic situation, the state is going to have any problems taking $90 from every stoner that signs up.

Hopefully over the next few years things like this will prove that pot is a great medicine and recreational drug and it doesn't make people into zombies or sexual predators or whatever else they have us down as.

Thanks Boner. I also have a thought for those of you who might consider visiting Colorado to take advantage of this: the rule statewide is that you must be a resident of Colorado. You would need state issued id or an id card from your previous state of residency + a utility bill or some document showing you live in Colorado. Also realize that Denver and Breckenridge voters have voted in favor of decriminalizing cannabis, so for a visitor those places might be the way to go. I doubt Breck will have coffeeshops, but it sounds like Denver and in particular the South Broadway district, formerly Antique Row, might be moving in that direction. I'll head down sometime and let ya'll know.

If the US keeps progressing like it is I may have to put it as a possible place to live in the future.

Geoff, I'm so glad your appointment came up with the goods :) Sounds like a bloody complicated system, but it's still awesome and worth it! Thanks for the write up.
Hmmm, property in US goes on the 'If I win the lottery list'. Have been 3 times before; Florida and Boston as a kid and Vegas, when still fairly mobile, in Jan '08 (StankyDanky would know what for!!! I met his avatar there:wink: ). I LOVED every trip. Wow, just think of it, choices of large amounts of weed combined with American portions. Unbelievable  I love thinking about food (I only use this computer for ACD and to look at menus!!!)

Sorry  munchies creeping in. Where are my biscuits?

Nice write up Geoff! Always wondered how the process worked. Was there a fee you had to pay and if so how much was it?

$175 to the clinic/dispensary. This fee usually runs about $150. If you have a regular physician and he/she is down for the cause, you'll only pay a doctor's visit, or better yet a doctor friend and then it's $0. You will at the least pay $90 to the state for your registration fees. So I paid $175 + $90.

The Afghan Goo I bought turned me into a zombie. Good med for pain.

My friend Mike met Ron at a rave. Probably on the prowl for teen girls. The only porn he does any more is with teeny boppers.

True that. And he looks even older in person than on screen, mind you so did Jenna Jameson. Tera Patrick looked good though, so its not all camera tricks!

I'm not sure on this one. I'll look into it though.

Yes I've had a very skunky strain before called Goo, but this is quite sweet and reminds me of bubblegum. I really like it. Quite strong and good medicine.

Yeah I held off for those reasons, but decided it is a good cause. When we do change Presidential administrations and if the new administration decides to take an anti pot stance, it is gonna be a major pain to go after every single medical card holder. I just don't see it happening. I've heard traveling card holders are targets while traveling between states. I don't travel with weed anyways, so no big problem. One thing that pushed me into getting my card is that I was at my in-laws and thinking to myself "Man I could just run down to the dispensary and grab a brownie if I had my card." It might've made Thanksgiving more relaxing.
