Good evening,

What would a typical dialogue be in Dutch of someone ordering cannabis at a coffeeshop?

hello

hello

how you been?

fine, you?

can't complain
could i please take a look at the super polm?

could i have 3grams please

dealer cuts & weighs 3grams, maybe just over if he's a regular

that'l be 24euros

could i also have a coffee please

eh 26euros

hands over 30 euros, gets back 4 euros, if he's a regular probably slips a euro in the tips jar

sits down & starts to roll joint, 2mins later he's coffees ready, collects coffee & returns to table finishes skinning up & sparks up

after theyv'e finished their joint & coffee they return the cup to the counter

thank you, see you in a bit

bye

From my experience, the conversation goes:

Me: Hi, can I have a gram of blahblah?
Them: A gram of blah blah, sure thing.

They weigh the weed. I put the money on the counter.

Them: Here you go.
Me: Thanks.
Them: Thanks.

So, if you want to do it in Dutch here are some of the variations that might throw you. They might ask you something about whether slightly over or under the weight is ok. This can come in lots of different variations and is one thing that I find the hardest to understand, haha. They might ask you if you'd like papers, screens or roach papers. They might double check about the amount you want, they might ask "So that was one gram?"

I find all these little variations can throw you a lot when trying to do it all in Dutch. Because as lame as it sounds, it can be kind of scary trying to speak Dutch with Dutch people!

Actually I can relate. One of my favorite bands, Omnia ,is Dutch and it is a smidge scary just trying to get through their message board. And when I'm listening to "Laura Speaks Dutch" I have to go back a few times to catch what the guy said.

But, I would rather be able to say that I tried to speak Dutch and fell flat on my face than to say that I never tried at all.

It's a Jersey thing.

Because I'm tall, ginger and have a goatee, if I start talking in Dutch it inevitable ends up with me admitting my Dutch is lame and switching to English.

In fact I was so disturbed by the amount of Dutchies approaching me for directions whilst unlocking my bike I've been forced to shave off the goatee, it seems to make me blend in with the tourists more. :?

Hi...(hi back at ya)..
Mag ik (een, twee, drie, vier, vijf...take yer pick) gram van (insert weed name here) alsjeblieft.

If they say anything in Dutch after this.... yer fucked! :D

Otherwise, pay them and say 'Dank je wel' then, if leaving...'doei!'

You want to seem relaxed, but not so relaxed that they mistake you for someone who's fluent... Luckily I don't have this problem :D

Then you say 'Mijn nederlands is niet zo goed' .. and have a sheepish smile ready :)

Having said that, I haven't tried it in Dutch either.. I have a confidence problem (and hearing problem doesn't help)!

Many Dutch order a "tientje" of weed i.e. a tenner. So if your weed is <10 euro/gram then you can basically squeeze out maybe an extra joint compared to buying just a gram of some sub-10europergram weed.

I hope this keeps downward pressure on weed prices to average around this mark and not go any higher.

Try saying (Sorry ik begrijp het niet) first, then (Mijn Nederlands Taal is kak een ik heb en klein brein) LOL.
