A couple of people have asked for my blessing for this plan. You absolutely have it but I don’t think you need it. I see the Gathering as a spontaneous and collective happening where everyone plays a part in organising it simply by getting themselves there. Anyone volunteering to try to organise more than themselves has my blessing anyday :D

I was a little worried that such an ambitious plan might end in disappointment but the enthusiasm shown here and the momentum building up behind the idea is beginning to convince me that it might even happen

With all coffeeshop meet-ups, only about half of the number of people who say they’re going to turn up actually will. The rest, despite their best intentions, will get Amsterdamned . If the number of committed people is small then there is a good chance nobody will turn up at all. I don’t know the statistics but I reckon few of the meets announced here in Travel Plans actually get mentioned in Travelogues.

It’s about critical mass - if you can get loads of people to commit to do something then there’s a reasonable chance that a few might actually do it. This is how our 420 has evolved. It started when AzLaker got so many people to commit to a meet in 420 that about eight of us actually made it! Last year Hestia kindly organised two boat trips as additional meets around 420. It had to be two trips because so many people said they wanted to come along and still the second trip was over subscribed. In the end nobody turned up for the first trip and only eight for the second.

For both the first 420 and the boat trip, most of the people who said they’d be there never made it. Nevertheless, they happened and were successful in that those of us that got there had a great time. They achieved critical mass .

If this idea reaches critical mass and happens then it could be brilliant. I think you’ll need to figure out how few judges would make a meaningful competition and then get at least twice that number to commit to the idea.

It’s great to see people throwing ideas in here. Lists, forms, graphics, wonderful stuff.

My idea to throw into the pot was inspired by the comments made earlier in this thread about Grey Area. It was pointed out that the most popular shop, according to both the main site and the forum, is too small and crowded to be good for arranging meets at or including in a crawl. This got me thinking about which shops have featured in successful meets.

From the Travelogues we know that 420/Kuil has inadvertently hosted several meets. Nes and Basjoe also spring to mind. But where else? If everyone who’s attended a meet were to nominate the shop where it happened, would that give us a good shortlist? If this is to be a competition for coffeeshops then that might be appropriate for an award by the forum.

If, on the other hand, it is to be a competition for strains then it’s not actually essential that everyone visits the shop selling it. We could each propose one or more varieties and buy a bit from the relevant shop. We could then carry a form with the name of the bud scribbled at the top. As we run into other members over the weekend we pass them a joint/vapo/pipe/whatever of the type and ask them to scribble their name and a score for the bud on the form.

An award for the best shop is a brilliant idea(it could become a regular thing and be a much sought after prize among the CS's,kinda like a stamp of approval by those in the know)but what could we give them......maybe a t-shirt with ACD Approved or something!!!!!!

Somehow I managed to miss the actual 4:20 date in my bookings and will be arriving the day after, in the early morning of the 21st, heading back on the Saturday morning - I'm hoping there will be some "fallout" meet-ups provisionally planned in the days to follow the undoubtable devastation to cannabis reserves in Amsterdam caused by the more hard-core members on the Tuesday! :P

Like the idea of the ratings for weed, ambiance etc. - it would need to be recorded quite quickly though, as I know from personal experience things can get forgotten very quickly, so some sort of written record as suggested by many here would probably work best...

I will probably be wearing (for at least some of the time) a T-shirt proudly bearing my avatar, so if any one recognises me out and about, please come over and say hello!

Usual haunts tend to be De Kuil, Amnesia, Green Place and Basjoes, amongst others...

I'd vote for plan #1

Keeping coffeeshops and weed seperate on voting might work well as it seems certain that some coffeeshops might well run out of popular strains during the 420 dates!
