file sharing websites

Post by Rez »

Hi all,

I've uploaded a few tunes using the megaupload site but would rather have a page somewhere that I can put some tunes, videos, photos and some other information to be shared.

Can anybody recommend a site (if one exists) ?

Many thanks,

Rez

You should look into something known as BLOGGING which basically allows the you to create your own space for uploading music/photos/videos whatever.

I first got wind of this when I saw a site ran by a Scottish guy known as Rainy Beetle, and his site had "remixed" Dolmio pasta sauce adverts on it.
Don't know if you've seen them but some of them were really funny.

Your ISP might offer some sort of blogging page that would suit your needs.

I think you are far better off doing that than basically opening your door to the world by using programs such as LimeWire. I downloaded that and got all the firewall and spyware warnings and after those I noticed that my computer was running a great deal slower than usual and most of the download speeds from the various file hosts are pretty slow anyway.

Needless to say LimeWire has now been removed from my system and it won't be making a comeback.

There are really many sites that would totally suit your needs.

You could setup a site of your own (like Doog) mentioned, the only downfall there is that you have to pay for the service. Not sure how prices are over there, but here in the states you can setup a nice little site for a few dollars a month.

Other options include uploading you files to some sort of filesahring network.
Most of these networks have turned to shit in the past year or two (as Doog mentioned). IMO the best file sharing platform right now is BitTorrent. BT is kinda hard for me to explain but it is basically safer, fastest, and overall better then anything else.

A couple of the biggest and open BT tracker sites are mininova.org and demonoid.com .

If you want to download or create Torrent files may I recommend uTorrent ( aka micro torrent ).

Its a tiny program that does the job better than most larger programs like Azeurus or BitComet. It lets you easily create your own torrents to upload for distribution.

Torrents are usually used more for widespread distribution rather than providing more private links like fileshack or megauploads or summat.

If you would rather go down the blogg route then wait until I get back (in Ireland) as I have a link to a free blogg site that is pretty good.

I think this is legal everywhere but not certain, here's how I collect music.

I use iTunes from Apple computer. I use the radio function to stream music through the internet. I then record the output to my speakers using a free program called "Freecorder" and if I need to do some editing I use other free program called "Audacity".

The sound quality is usually excellent but it's in radio format as in songs are often blended together or cut short. This does not bother me but I can see how this would annoy someone else.
My thoughts are free.

Rez - you could set up yor own ftp site using your pc as the server.
Download a program such as "Serv-U FTP Server" and you can share 'till your heart's content...

I also recommend using a Torrent Client. You can view them, and I believe add them, to many sites such as www.mininova.org
