Post by Lion King »

Im planning to visit Haarlem would like to go on bicycle from amsterdam.
Good idea or not? I guess the fastest way is to go on Haarlemmerweg -is it bicycle friendly?? is there an alternative route with less cars/trams??
If im too stoned to bike back can i bring my bike on the tram?
Can u share any info i would be grateful

Buy a day ticket for your bike for around 6 euros and you're good.

With that, you can take your bike on the train in the off peak hours on cars that have a bike symbol on them.

I used to take my bike there all the time, next time I will be riding from Am'dam.

If you have a folding bike you can take it on the train for free.

If it's decent weather then cycle, it's bike friendly all the way. 9 km doesn't take too long.

@max flower do you know when its 'off peak hours' in the weekend??

@DC I thought the distance between amsterdam and haarlem were 20 km??

I have heard about a company called Ganja (bicycle) Tours. Anyone know if they are still offering tours (to haarlem)?? I think i have seen their website years ago now i cant find it :?

http://www.thebigtrip.us/ganjatours.html

there's your ganja tours.... it is about 18-20 km from station to station.... but honestly its a really easy ride.... just follow the bike signs to Haarlem.... During the spring and summer I used to ride from Leiden up to amsterdam a number of times ( it's about 45 km distance) and it took about 2.5 hours and was super easy...

no hills... no elevation what so ever!

all you need is to take Haarlemmerstraat all the way to Haarlem!
once there if you want get to the beach find N200 road it will bring you to bloemendaal aan zee if you keep goin youll end up in Zandvoort!(3-4km) « nice route by the sea!

Thanks fellow bikers
I guess i will be able to find it. Easy. What i love about holland is that you can get around on bike(flat as a pancake, traffic is designed for bikes etc. So far been cruising in the dam looking forward to explore the west coast.
@ Hippyman GT looks like fun. Have u tried??

I haven't been on one of the ganjatours myself no
... but they always looked super fun....

I dunno if they're finished Boner.... The website still says new tours for 2010, just to contact them... so who knows?

enjoy your bike ride Lion King.... if you're here when there's good weather I'd definitely recommend biking to the beach.... its gorgeous in the summer.... not to mention all the incredibly hot dutch women walking around the beach....

peace,
hippy

Like everyone say's Haarlem is a nice ride and just a few miles further and you're in Zandvoort, with a nice c/s, Yanks. As someone who has done a lot of miles cycle touring in Holland I can say that flat as it is, if you get a good head wind its like going up hill as theres nothing to stop it. My recomendation is to bunker well on some good Sativa and you wont feel a thing. Get those wheels turning LK :)
What a long strange trip it is.
