Welcome along Trike. Born and raised in Melbourne, now living in Scotland. Going in January eh? Suppose it would be a nice change going from the fryer (Australia) to the freezer (Amsterdam) in January.

Shouldn't be any probs with accommodation at that time of year. Weather will be the main problem so come on global warming. Let's see what you've really got.

Thanks Doog!
I'm a Sydney man myself, that's exactly right about the weather thing - always wanted to experience Europe in the winter ( and am especially looking forward to spending cosy days 'smokin it up' in dam. - i'm going for 10 days in early january (at the start of my vacation) and another 5 days at the end!
I've already organised accommodation - i couldn't resist one of those themed rooms in the Greenhouse Effect hotel - i booked "lounge suite" - it should be nuts!
Glad to be part of the ACD forum team finally.
Speak soon.
I miss that place so much.

Nice to have you along trike. You cant go wrong with the GHE all the rooms there are decent. Ive never stayed in the lounge suite but it looks pretty spacious.

Ive been in February a couple of times and it snowed both visits... if youre lucky you might get the same.
You missed it right?

Thanks for the welcome Redeye!
I hope it does snow! I'm looking forward to many days chilling in track pants inside watchin the snow fall with an endless supply of wonderful weed around me ... man i gotta stop doing this to myself! - its still something like 245 days until I go! its killing me!
All i've had is positive feedback about GHE Hotel - looks insane! Not a bad coffeeshop below either!

Hey trike glad you joined.

I loved my two stays at the GHE; the staff are super friendly, rooms were worth the money but not as much as the location - can hardly be beat.

I guess the climate change will be noticable, just pack an extra sweater/jumper or two! I used to live in Brisbane for around a year in 1989 with my parents, even got to go to Sydney when my cat flew over there in was in quarantine for 2 months - odd maybe but thats another story.

Hi and welcome to the place to be for info and friendly conversation about Amsterdam... and anything else really.

How long is your flight and is it a non-stop journey..?

Regards,

Thanks all you guys for the welcome.
My flight from sydneu aint a pretty one, but for the holy grail, i can take it. I fly non-stop to singapore from sydney (8 hours) then to frankfurt (13 hours) then to amstedm (1 hour) - including stopovers its a transit time of over a day. I'll be there from the 5th to 15th January, and then again from the 13th to 18th February.
Gald to be part of the team, you can never know enough about this place. Up to date information is awesome. I'll be sure to give you mine when i'm there.
A couple of people have found it odd to go in January? - watta you all think? I thinks its a nice change, can't think of anything more refreshing than enjoy a warm bowl in a cold climate. but i gues its just coz i have never experienced it.!
I miss that place so much.
