New name for Rotterdam's airport
05/02/2010
The airport of Rotterdam, the Netherlands' second city will be called Rotterdam The Hague Airport from next week. By including the name of the nearby government centre, the airport is hoping to attract more passengers whose ultimate destination is The Hague.
The new name will be promoted abroad, but will also figure on signs in the airport's departures and arrivals hall. The renaming foreshadows the opening of a new railway station which will enable air travellers to take a 25 km ride straight from the airport into the centre of The Hague, or to Rotterdam in the other direction.
Rotterdam's airport used to be named Zestienhoven after the polder area where it was built, and it is owned by Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
