Actually, the cheapest way (and better if there is no traffic) is to take the Interliner 370 bus from outside the main terminal to Leidseplein. You can use your OV chipcard and the bus fare is between 2-3 euros.

It makes a few stops on the way into the city but if your hotel is near the Leidseplein I think its faster. Also, the best may to meet a KLM stewardess :D

I think the bus has moved since then. You get on it on the same side of the street from the American Hotel (well actually in the middle of that street where the tram tracks are).

IMO, The best way of getting from the airport to centrum is the airport shuttle bus.
It costs 15 Euro but takes you directly to any hotel.
A few Euros more than trains and trams or a bus, but worth it IMO.

took this a few years back from my hotel(Golden Tulip Barbizon Palace - nice hotel!)>AMS, also thought this was a good deal but i'm going to an apartment this time that is not directly opposite (nor very near for that matter) to any scheduled stops :( oh well...think i'll hit that 370 bus this time, haven't taken from AMS>centrum but shouldn't be too hard to find i suppose... :?

thanks!

I concur, Old Timer. Blueberry and I took it in April and since we had landed at about 6 am we wanted to get to Barney's. The shuttle bus dropped us off at the corner of the Singel and Harlemmerstraat. If they're going out that way they don't mind if you give them an intersection, they'll drop you off there also. Doesn't necessarily have to be a hotel, although I grabbed the shuttle going to the airport from the Kras coming home. Definitely easier than the train for a woman with more luggage than a man.

www.gvb.nl

www.connexxion.nl

Ps someone here recently got the train to sloterdijk & the tram from then on so they are tons of ways to do it.

Fare update on the 370 bus. If you pay cash, its 4e, with an OV Chipcard its about 2.20e

Also, due to construction on Marnixstraat the bus stop has moved. You must now go toward the Marriott and catch the bus at the very end of the Overtoom. This is temporary.

definitely the train. get the full experience.

And before you leave to come home you must stand outside centrall station and get wrecked on ya last splif!!!

Its a rule you must not breal lol.

And the journey home suddenly becomes great apart from leaving the place no one wants to leave!!

Same here...

I don't spark up in front of the machine gun wielding police though!

If I have an early morning flight back to blighty and there's no convenient coffeeshops open en-route to Centraal Station, then that last spliff outside Schiphol is a must...

Just gotta keep straight enough to get through security tho...
