I dig those Puma Biomega bikes, but I wouldn't want to travel to Amsterdam with one.

What is your budget? Folding bikes are more rare on the used market.
Well, I doubt I'll get prices like these but, I found this folding bike online for $159 http://www.greenzonebikes.com/20-foldin ... ed-bl.html not sure if I would get this exact same bike but, I would prefer not to spend more than $250.

Maybe when I get there I can try to find a place to order it online and have it shipped and just rent a bike temporarily until it arrives.

Also, what's the deal with all the bike theft? Is it likely that if I get a folding bike or a nice bike it's going to get stolen like I read everywhere? Or with the number of bikes there, you just have to be unlucky to get it stolen during the day? Of course I'll always keep the bike locked and since it's a folding bike I'll bring it in my apartment so it won't have to be locked outside in the open overnight.
Can I give you a quick lesson in the Amsterdam bike mentality? Please don't take it the wrong way, but you ideas are contrary to what 90% of the people seems to do with bikes.

Do not buy an expensive bike. Do not buy a new bike.

Get a beater like everyone else has, 50-100e. Get a good lock. The chances of it getting stolen over a year is very high, so do not get attached to any bike you have.

The joy of a bike here is locking it up and forgetting about it. Carrying the bike inside would destroy that.

This goes for a lot of other things you will face here when you move.....don't try to plan it all to the last detail, once you are here you will figure it out.

That is my advice, I hope you take it with the kindness behind it.

Ok, thanks for all the suggestions. I got the info I was looking for, I'm going to wait to get there and see how it goes.

The 16" look way too small and the 20" seem too small as well. I found another site with some good deals on 26" folding bikes for about 100 GBP (about $150 u.s.) - http://sunlova.com/SearchProduct.aspx
