see i didnt know that, like i said very little reporting of it this side of the water, iv'e heard little snippets of info here & there, are all the people behind these movements singing from the same hymn sheet? or are some more radical than others? because i doubt any corporation would want the FR to fall.geoffk wrote:The Tea Party seems to get press on Faux (Fox) only, that should tell you something. They are mainly republicans, the want to block any progress that the left side tries to do, and about the only station that will cover them is faux news. I dont dislike republicans. I have many friends who are staunch republicans and abe lincoln was one of my favorite history presidents. I just cant agree with some of their views, but doesnt mean I dislike them. cheersPauli Wallnuts wrote:being from the uk, theirs very little reporting from these tea partys??(is that what theyr'e called?) movements, 1 thing i have heard is that they are against the centralisation of power & want the federal reserve abolished, in my eyes 2of the biggest challenges to freedom/real democracy in the US, am i right in saying they are mostly republican supporters taking part in them? just because theyr'e republican, imo doesn't necceseraly mean theyr'e bad, wasn't abraham lincoln a republican? & he abolished slavery, i wish them all the luck in the world in bringing down the FR

theyr'e against public healthcare? EVERY american should want it, in the uk theyr'e trying to privatise the industry by stealth, but the people dont want that, we know we got something special, dont get me wrong it can be very annoying when you gotta wait 2hours to see the dr because theyr'e so overworked, but we dont pay a penny to do so, also we only pay a prescription price for our medication, think its £6-£7, no matter what it is, in wales & possibly scotland (not sure) they get it completely free, we do pay a ridiculous amount of tax though, & it does have serious downsides like cancer drugs not being approved because theyr'e to expensive (but in most cases the greedy pharmaceuticals waving their patents in the air are to blame), even the conservatives now know that the only way they will get back into power is by promising to not cut NHS budgets, not that anyone believes themcattales1960 wrote:They are mainly republicans, the want to block any progress that the left side tries to do, and about the only station that will cover them is faux news. I like the idea of a public health care system. At least I'd like to hear it out. Unfortunately, when it's brought up, so is the word Socialist [gasp!]. In fact I've had people tell me that Europeans are miserable due to their health care system. See the kind of ignorance we are up against. Even though we can manage to pull together money for war, when costs for a health care system are brought up people start screaming about how our taxes are gonna go way up. Even though it's an option to buy in.Pauli Wallnuts wrote:theyr'e against public healthcare? Its mostly republicans (and some Dems) against the Health care initiative that Obama is trying to get passed. We already have in this country a form of socialized medicine and its called medicaid and medicare and its a horrible system. Although they dont like to say that is what it is, its definately a form of socialized medicine. We as tax payers pay through the nose for this broken down system and that is why it has to change.geoffk wrote:I like the idea of a public health care system. At least I'd like to hear it out. on the fox news subject, its owner rupert murdoch also controls the media in the uk, he owns sky tv (the largest pay tv platform in the uk) The Times of London & The Sun newspapers, the times is aimed @the middle classes & the sun @the working class, he has gone on record as saying that he will not have any say on the editorial of the times but will with the sun, so basically if your well educated you can read the news, if your a commoner you will be sold the line he wants,&it is very much a right wing paper, not as blatant as the daily mail, but still very much on the right, during the miners strike it supported thatcher, now that in itself will tell you its there for the rights agenda, yet it still has the cheek to say its 'the peoples paper' (also its very anti marijuana) the problem is amongst the young & working class going into a newsagents & buying the times is very uncool, honestly the sun is the biggest crock of shit ever invented, but is extremly powerful, whoever its backed to become Prime Minister has gone on to win, the candidates bend over backwards to please murdoch so they can get his nod of approval.
the other paper aimed @the working class is the mirror, this is left wing, but still just as shit, it treats the public in exactly the same way (as dummys) whatever the sun says the mirror says the opposite, however ridiculous, also all the news channels are shit, sky news, bbc, cnn, c4, 5, even al jazeera, they all follow the line theyr'e spun, the only news channel that you can actually get any meaningfull info off is RT(Russia Today), i know how crazys that, the other day i learnt something very interesting that NONE of the other stations reported on & that is that the IMF & George Soros are together manipulating the gold markets in their favour, western media would never dare report on something like that

not yet thank godgeoffk wrote:Yup Pauli, by controlling the media to the masses, you now control what the common person knows. Very sad. Do your channels have pundits that whip people into a frenzy like the ones we have, say Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity?

I won't, but with the current status of the Republican Party, I'm not sure they have anyone that could beat a sitting President. The party has been fractured by Faux News, Palin, and her Tea Bagger/Birther bowel-movement.DazedandConfusedinOR wrote:I wouldn't hold your breath on that Obama reelection.

I was going to reply in a similar fashion.
Anyone that has been semi-conscious these past 8+ years knows what has happened under the Bush Administration (and let's not forget Congress).
Lets review shall we:
1. We were attacked by terrorists on 9-11-01 even though our intelligence agencies had most of these men on some type of watch list. Our agencies also had information that warned of attacks using commercial airliners, from Bin Ladden himself. What measures, if any, did the Bush administration take to ensure our safety? Let me know because I still haven't found any laws, directives, programs, policies, or procedures implemented between his inauguration and 9-11-01 that addressed the increased terror threat.
Special note: What were the nationalities of the 19 hijackers? Most were Saudi and all were of Islamic faith. How about the handful since? Non-white Islamic. Still think profiling is a bad idea? Before anyone starts with McVeigh and Nichols, they were a horse of a different color. McVeigh opposed what he considered a tyrannical federal government (Wiki). He also was quoted as having said that he was sorry that people had to lose their lives. How does he compare to those who have declared a Holy War or Jihad against all non believers, especially Americans? Heard any expression of remorse from them lately, or ever?
2. Two major theaters of war with 5,384 American killed. 4,379 (Iraq) and 1,005 (Afghanistan).
Note: Since President Obama took office on 21 Jan 09, there have been 767 deaths attributed to the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. 151 (Iraq) 616 (Afghanistan)
3. Wall Street crisis.
4. Housing Crisis.
5. Rising unemployment.
6. Tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% of Americans.
Note: Sarah Palin and the Tea Bagger movement claim that under the Obama administration, taxes have increased for all Americans. What they don't want (you) to believe are the facts: 95% of all Americans received a tax cut in 2009. Only the wealthiest 1% of Americans had their taxes increased. The wealthy can afford to pay lawyers to find as many loopholes as possible. And when loopholes run out, they send lobbyists to Washington to buy a few MORE Senators and Congressmen (thanks US Supreme Court).
The list goes on. But hey, we can place all of the blame on President Obama, especially those who voted for Bush and in the recent election, McCain and Palin. Wow my fellow Americans, just think, VP Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency. How's Senator McCain's health these days? He's over 70 right? Still think the American people got it wrong considering the choices? I don't, and yes, 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Peace.
Plant the seed.

Its too bad they can't have the balls to not give a shit what someone else thinks of them and buy something that they might enjoy.the problem is amongst the young & working class going into a newsagents & buying the times is very uncool,
The Manchester Guardian (now simply the Guardian) used to be quite sympathetic to the left and was well written. I used to go to their site everyday to get a different point of view from the rightwing bullshit North American media. However, I think it has, like most other media, started to stray into the "infotainment" realm.
I quite enjoy the BBC, and think that you British folks have quite an institution there! There is no other media outlet quite like it! It is not perfect, but compared to the shit Canadian and American Media, it is, for me, a welcome respite!
In case you haven't noticed I am very much on the left end of the political spectrum! (In the US, I would probably get arrested as being a "communist"
