I think some of you guys are being a bit rough on this place. It's not like the staff is rude or anything. I've been there many times. I've always purchased weed there so I never had to deal with being told I had to buy their weed. I can totally understand that position though, and I feel that the steak analogy fits perfectly here. Someone mentioned that you can go into a steak restaurant and just order a drink but that's most likely just at the bar. If you wanted to take up an entire table in a restaurant while only buying drinks you would likely be told that that was for the bar area only.

Also, this isn't the biggest coffeeshop and seating is limited. That needs to be considered. If a guy walks in there and orders some weed and can't get a seat because they're all taken, well that's only fair if everyone seated purchased weed as well, or is at least part of a group that did.

And let's say the place is half empty. It's still perfectly within reason to enforce such a rule because if an exception is made for one, it's only fair that it's made for all.

Let's not forget that this is a coffeeshop, primarily there to sell weed. If the place is going to be full of people just drinking soda or coffee and smoking weed they bought at Grey Area then why the hell are they a coffeeshop at that point? They may as well just be a cafe. And I know a lot of people like to use this place as a rest stop because I've seen it. I've seen people march in and head straight upstairs without acknowledging the staff. I've seen people come in and plonk down on the first chair they see and start skinning up. The Old Church has to get a lot of this due to its location and the fact that it has an upstairs with a view, and I'm sure it's gotten quite old for them. So they put up a sign with some rules, big deal. Nobody's considering the BS that they and other coffeeshops have had to put up with from wasted, ignorant customers that likely prompted some of the rules in the first place. I'm not saying that's anyone here, just making a point.

As far as the guy getting change for smokes goes, that sounds like a bit of an isolated incident. Ditto for someone in a group being singled out for not buying weed. I've been in there with other people before and we never had to each make our own, separate weed purchases.

Their gear isn't the best, but it's good. I loved last years Special Bubblegum and the Ice Skunk from the previous year invokes good memories as well. But their best menu item to me is the Royal Cream hash. It's not the most potent stuff but the taste and smoothness are amazing.

i could understand your argument if they were selling drinks at a reasonable price, but when they charge 3euros for a looza then that makes up for only 3people out of a group of 7 buying smoke, i bought the royal cream it was ok but, no way worth 18euro for 1.5grams, the sahara central sells (12.5euros for 1.5grams) is 10x better, also the caramelo in 420 at 11euros a gram is some of the best hash in dam & they dont stand there demanding everyone buy smoke & then a drink at over inflated prices

18 Euro for 1.5g? Sounds like they had a bit of a price hike from last year, damn. I'll have to give this place a proper reevaluation in two weeks. I may come back with a different opinion of this place, though I hope that doesn't happen.

Dear future customer,

Prices range anywhere between E 7.50 for a gram of WW or JH (one of the cheapest in de RED District) to E 18 for 1.5 grams of our cannabis awardwinning hash. I'm sure we can find something in your price range to ensure a happy and afforable smoke!

Remember that award winning smokes are a lot more pricy! This is due to the fact that the growers ask a high price for their carefully cultivated products.

Conclusion..........:
If you are just looking for an affordable high than they are still on the menu at The Old Church. On the other hand... more rare weeds/hashish and cup-winners will always be priced higher. Those weeds often tend to be a lot stronger so the good thing is that you dont need to smoke a lot of it.

Have good stay in Amsterdam,

The future of the red light district: Old Church no more?

Post by Cannakid »

Dear Visitors and Customers,

We all know (or you do now!) that coffeeshops every year are taxed higher and higher. All this time the local as well as the national coverment has filled their pockets.

Now they have a new project called coalition plan postalcode 1012. Some of you may heard of it.
For the sole reason of turning part of the RD District into a highgrade shopping/cafe area (Red Carpet plan), they are now looking to close 26 coffeeshops (and windows) in this area. This inlcudes the Warmoe-straat as well as the Oude Kerksplein.

Yes, the Old Church too.....

Because they are very aware of the fact that they CANT just go close those businesses, they now revealed a report which include very discriminating words about not only owners and workers of those (suddenly shady???) businesses as well as their customers.

Yes... You are reading this correctly:

Coffeeshops are criminal and criminigen businesses. Visitors of such establishment are low valued.

This is just one of the statements made by the mayor of Amsterdam (who recently got feathers up his arse by the mayor of New York about the drugpolicy in Amsterdam).

With this statement they are trying to close us down and 25 others with us.

However..... around the corner we find more coffeeshops. Those are ones outside the area of clearing. We are very frustrated and supprised that these coffeeshops are not criminal and criminogen businesses (????????) cause they can stay.

You can see there statements hold no ground and are very discriminating for the people who own, work or visit our coffeeshop as a guest.
They are put out of business, job-less, and you are cheated out of a trip to your favorite coffeeshop because of this rediculous, unfair and false statement. Specially for us, cause we tried to maintain a friendly coffeeshop and eventhough we get raided, they never in 26 years found anything that wasnt according to their already rediculous rules. Looks like we too get punished for trying to stick with the rules (and pay 71% tax ontop of that). Also the staff has a clean slate where it comes to police records.

At this time im not aware of any website, blog or other for our customers to protest against this. Maybe its an idea for the webmaster on this forum to create room for this before there is nothing to post on here as it is!

Thanks for reading and your support,

Not really..... It used to be 12 euro for a gram....

Here comes the math:

0.5 for 6 euro.... 1.5 for 18. Its not priced higher, it is simply turned into a higher amount due to the fact our customers wanted more than a gram but didnt want to buy 2 grams (24 euro).
