Just a cafe

Not a bad idea. Sounds better.

Always walked past this place, last trip i dropped in, hash wasn't great.
Vibe was crap, just boring in there.

Refused entry to the 2nd floor, which defeated the object of going in.

Seem very half-arsed in there.

Old church in itself is a tourist attraction, so adding a c/s with same name next door will rake in tourists.

Will never visit again.
Shit listed for me this place.

Such a shame this place has gone downhill so quickly. Used to be one of my favourite places to chill in. I didn't mind paying for the overpriced drink because you expect it in such a location. I DO mind however about being forced to buy there weed and smoke only there weed inside.
I will sadly be giving this place a very wide berth in future.

this has got to be my FAVOURITE COFFEESHOP of them all
will be there again in a few weeks, looking forward to a nice cup of tea and watching the world go by,
whats thelatest news on smoking there now guys?

we have been there again on our last trip last weekend and will not be retuning again

we have always been able to roll with our own, but this time she rudely told us we could not roll with our own we had to buy from them if we wanted a smoke, we had bought 4 of the overpriced drinks and were told this after paying for them !!!
we were thinking bout buying a bag there just did not appreciate the way she told us this then kept her eye on us !!
very very rude and they have now lost more repeat customers !!!!i liked this place for the location but there are much better, and now they have our valued custom !!

who do they think they are !

Unfortunately due to its location it will still get plenty of custom from the unsuspecting tourist but as I was once told by Mark at Hotel the Crown "That you keep returning ish the biggesht compliment we can have", obviously Old Church do not share this philosophy!

Do we have to ask if we can smoke are own before purchasing drinks in a place now?

Surely it has not come to this.

U getting money making idea's DC??? :D

OJ
Let me clear this up... A coffeeshop does not get ANY VAT RETURN. ON NOTHING. This results into higher prices. Also.. It varies from location to location this has to do with high rents on A-locations such as where the Old Church is. These rents are raised every year.

On thing I agree on...:
They (the coverment) raised a little too much the last years. But this does not only apply to The Netherlands and its capitol.

I would suggest to run any other money making ideas before an accountant before you count yourself rich :O)))))

Im not only a dealer.... but i gots my masters in accountantcy as well. (brag brag brag..)

Smoke on,

Cannakid
The return is for the value of the plastic crate itself, not vat on the beverage, which is low anyway because it's a soft drink. Each empty Looza crate is worth approx 5 euro depending on who yer delivery comes from. This aside, 3 euro is a disgraceful price to charge for a looza no matter what excuse ya try to cover it with. lmao....wtf are you doin mate...certainly not improving the image of your shop that's for sure. I can understand you thinkin yer trying to help, but from where I'm sittin yer doin more damage than even yer prices and customer service are.

Funny read though.

Loved this place!! Went here 4 times over a week. Tried the Iceolator pre-rolled on the morning of my second day and I have to say it turned my legs to jelly!! Smoked another one on the last morning but didn't have nearly the same effect. Nice white widow here too 14 euros for 1.7g I think.

Milkshakes are crap here though, better in Amnesia

Not really..... It used to be 12 euro for a gram....

Here comes the math:

0.5 for 6 euro.... 1.5 for 18. Its not priced higher, it is simply turned into a higher amount due to the fact our customers wanted more than a gram but didnt want to buy 2 grams (24 euro).
That's a load of garbage. I have never heard of anyone happy about coffeeshops increasing a minimum purchase. In fact, people do nothing but COMPLAIN about it. If I want to sample something on the menu, 1 gram is plenty. Forcing me to buy 1.5 grams only makes you look greedy.

And thanks for assuming we are too stupid to do basic math.
RIP OFF ARTISTS ANNOY US ALL EVEN MORE....
Having read Cannakids annoying responses I have to pitch in.
Cannakid manages to lose even more customers by patronising us all. What a load of Bollocks to the claim that there are all these mythical customers who want 1.5 grams (duh, like maybe you might weigh it to order if that was true, you know like actually give your customers what they want, not what you want), anyway its clearly a bare faced lie to increase their minimum transaction per customer, pure and simple.

If you put this greedy minimum requirement alongside a drink then basically its 20e cover charge just to sit there. Even a seat and table in the Piaza De Republica (the most expensive and luxurious 5 star cafe/restaurants in the centre of Florence, Italy) with two of worlds best cappucino costs half that, and the novelty of looking at fat old whores doesnt quite make up for it. And what do you get apart from stinking attitude for your 20e, crap buds that would be the worst draw on the menu in a decent coffeshop round the corner. Its what it has always been, Tourist Rip Off Bar, why dont they just admit what they are, we might actually respect them for their honesty.

In over 20 years of Dam visits ive never ever ever met anyone who either regularly goes there or has great tales to tell, that really takes some doing Id say.....

~ Postscript - just read my own grumpy comments, and just thought that looking on the positive side, if the old church were transplanted lock stock and barrel to London or Manchester or wherever, even with indifferent buds it would be the best place ever, and their 'rules' would be a pleasure, makes me think Ive been a bit harsh..??

Hey Cannakid
Here come's some math for you.
I read this whole thread, all 106 posts, and there appear's to be about 15-18 posts stating they will never enter this CS. Let's call that 15% of the posts. It's probably higher due to some people making multiple posts.
Now look at the number of people that have READ this thread, a little over 24000. If 15% of those people never enter your shop, purchase one of your over priced 3euro drinks and smoke their own then you have lost sales of approx. 10,300euro. And if all these lost customers were going to come to your shop with just 2 friends each, well your the one that's so good at math.
I have yet to visit Amsterdam, I arrive for my first trip Jan14/2010, and you have already alienated me. Should have tried for a marketing degree.

I like the upstairs. I didn't go there in October, which was my last trip. I think i bought a pre rolled there once and it was crap. From the reviews it seems like this shop has turned in to one of these: buy my weed or gtfo. Thus, losing business straight away. Fail logic.
