saw the post about scale models and thought i'd ask. ever since i was little iv been fascinated by aviation. my dad got me into it. being from seattle where most boeing planes are made iv had a big interest. also like fighter aircraft(but not the death they bring). iv had the luck to fly on alot of the major planes except b 727, md-11, airbus a340 and a380. biggest dissapointment was when ba/af retired the concorde. anyone else share this interest? just thought I'd ask.

I also like aviation. The mechanics of flight, cutting edge design and accident prevention etc all fascinate me. Military aircraft despite their general purpose are of course some of the most interesting as they push the boundaries and develop the technology.

I love to watch things like crosswind landings on youtube, some amazing touchdowns on there.

This is an amazing video of idiot flyboy Lt. Col Arthur "Bud" Holland bringing the USAF into disrepute while practising for an air show at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1994. The B52 Stratofortress is an amazing piece of equipment; graceful and powerful. Listen to the base staff comments as they video this madman. The manouvers leading up to the crash are simply astounding as Holland pushes the plane well beyond its intended limits.

the incident makes for some interesting reading also. the fact that it was allowed to happen is simply beyond belief.

I am into aviation as well. I did have the privilege of flying on the Concord a few months after 9/11 . My first Transatlantic flight was on an MD-11, the best passenger aircraft ever IMO! Still haven't made the flight on the A380 yet and probably won't for at least a few more years. I try not to fly in newly designed aircraft until they been flying for at least five years. I know that might sound crazy but it makes me feel safe I can't wait for the 787 and the 747X! Boeing makes some of the best aircraft. As far as freighter aircraft, I worked for FedEx for a few years. I had the chance to fly on an MD-11F, 727F and a few others I don't remember.

Concorde was innocent! A real shame that such a beautiful piece of engineering was withdrawn from service. Would have loved the opportunity to fly on one.

I remember watching a vid of a concorde pilot describing his first flight onboard with the test-pilot who demonstrated the craft was capable of doing a full 360 degree roll. As soon as he completed the manoeuvre he said "now its your turn".

Also the Tupolev TU-144 was amazing but not quite as pretty.

I am not into planes TBH, just BHX-AMS as reg as possible

But that crash was mental thanks for putting it up, and yes the loss of concord was sad.
I was never lucky enough to get to go on concord but i was at Birmingham Airport when it landed for the opening of BA euro hub with the queen on (Old hag). Never saw it for its final tour as i was erm, well lets just say staying sort of with Her majesty

IM not into flying planes but I used to be a professional skydiver. I used to have so much fun doing it and jumped out of all kinds of aircrafts.

If the security forces werent watching the forum before, they will be after this thread....

fairchild afb is like 250 miles(4-5 hrs) east of me. i remember when that happened. they dont have any b52's stationed there anymore though.


i live under the flight path for mccord afb and low flying c-17's are always flying over me. once when i was in my back yard taking bong hits one flew over at what couldn't have been more than 300-500 feet. almost scared me to death!

concorde was great. but after 9/11 with the airline crisis and the fact that it was a fuel hog they just stopped using it. the air france crash didn't help either. was sad though that was a beautiful and amazing aircraft. i didn't get to fly it but i got to go inside the cabin of one at the paris airshow when i was like 6 years old. we almost got to fly on it but even with my parents airline employee passes it was expensive. towards the end of its career it was like 8-11k a seat for a 3 hr flight.


my fave plane i think is the 777 and 747 series. the 747 sp is kinda cool too. its kinda boring but i like it. i liked the airbus a-330 too. very quiet! i always liked the dc-10 because the winding sound of engine #3 on takeoff was cool.

balou: the 747-8 just recently flew its a cool aircraft. has the technology of the 787 and bigger 777 size engines. longest passenger airplane on earth too.


as far as fighters go the f-22 is insanely impressive. id say its better than the euro fighter typhoon overall.


anyone ever see the us navy blue angels/ or raf red arrows in person? they come here for seafair each year.

check out the landing vids from the beach in front of princes juliana international airport in st. maarten in the Caribbean, or the landings at hong kongs old kai tak airport.

Haven't watched any vids of the C-17 but will do now. Its a big boy alright, impressively able to operate from short runways/strips. Cheers.

The Princess Juliana Airport vids are amazing, they make me want to holiday there tbh. Seems like one of the few times I would enjoy lying on the beach...

Also the Kai Tak ones are also amazing but its unsurprising that they shut it down. Some great crosswind vids from there!

its a nice place to holiday. nice beaches and really cool clear water. half the island is french and the other half is part of the netherlands or netherlands antilles.

its a nice place to holiday. nice beaches and really cool clear water. half the island is french and the other half is part of the netherlands or netherlands antilles.

The French half is part of true France (EU), the Dutch side is Netherlands Antilles.

Had some of the worst weed in the world there....

As for the Concorde, it is a shame that planes went backwards, speed-wise, when she went out of service.

Very BIG respect Cattales . Man you would have to boot me out the door, no way. . Anyway, along with a date with Marilyn Monroe, that is something that at my age has probably passed me by.

I do like to see clever technology and always used to get excited when I caught a whiff of aviation fuel near the airport. Also flew in quite a few Navy Helicopters back in the dim and distant. Ships are probably my thing though having spent 20 years at sea.



One of my favorites MV Benarty. 18 derricks and a 200 ton heavy lift, a hard working ship, but had some of the best times on it, and all I can say is I'm glad we didn't have drug tests in those days. .
