Chic & Basic
Anyone here ever stay at the Chic & Basic Amsterdam? It's located in a great area right around the corner from Sibrie and close to Dampkring II. Was going to stay at the Convent (formerly Sofitel) but got bumped!
Never even heard of it before but it looks really nice, reasonably priced and in a cracking location.

Walked by here many times and thought to myself that it must be a good place to be. Actually got to stay here for three nights in November 2010 ........ and loved it
Normally I couldnt afford the 90 Euros per night, but I got a good deal with Thompson for £300 including flight, so I went for it.
It's a "non-smoking hotel", but the room I had (number 123) came with its own private terrace where I could blaze away to my hearts content. It also had a flat screen TV and a decent bathroom. The website says you can choose between modern or traditional rooms, but Trip Advisor reviews all say go for the modern ones (which are very cool).
No breakfast to speak of, apart from bread and jam, but you get free tea and coffee around the clock, and also it has a kitchen area wher you can knock up something simple for yourself.
Situated on one of the prettiest canal sections in the whole of Amsterdam, it's still only three minutes walk to Dampkring 2, Barneys, Popeyes and Siberie.
I would be very happy to stay here again.

This is where we stopped, so thanks to the op and Lord Average as I did search the forum before booking plus for the money (we paid €105 a night) it's really high on trip advisor.
Twin room 323 (2 flights of stairs) (could be made a triple as it had one of those cot beds folded up in the corner) private bathroom (one of the best showers we've had in Ams) with a little balcony where I happily sat blazing (by the looks of the roof below so did everyone else) and drinking the free flowing coffee, I think it took me about 2 days to notice we had a bit of a canal view (Herengracht) as well (it was a gap between the hotel and next door but it was a water view all the same
).
The staff were awesome the the dutch girl with the ample breast was stunning.
9/10 as the tv wasn't tuned in (couldn't be arsed to figure it out) and the toaster was a bit shit but it'll be my first choice in future.

I thought I had replied after our stay....and I did but in a separate thread
:
Thanks for the reminder that I never updated an older post with a follow up review. I sent the following in a PM regarding the same and I did not smell anyone smoking while there. There was a small terrace you could maybe use...
The room we stayed in had a private bathroom and supposedly was the largest on the top (attic) floor. I imagine if you have a shared bathroom it will be one of the singles on the lower floors, which appeared cramp but not out line with most hotels in Amsterdam. Everything was clean and newish.
Doesn't seem like you could get away with smoking in the rooms, but Siberie is right around the corner and Barney's, Dampkring, etc on the haarlemstraat are a very close walk.
The only other down side was the front entrance required someone be at the front desk to buzz you in whether you are staying there or not. This led to us waiting a few minutes once or twice.

So it goes.
