Here's a real bit of sport for you.

Notice the lack of padding/helmets involved and the Aussies. Those boys love a tear up.

They had previously stopped these games, however, they are bringing it back this year. Which is nothing sort of Awesome.

' That game where a bunch of fat cunts run into each other with a shit load of padding on a celebrate moving a yard '
I would pay good money to watch you run a crossing route and get your head taken off by the free safety. Doubt you'd be talking slick about padding after that.

i actually agree with stanky here. put a rugby player against a team of nfl players w/o pads and someone would get a broken neck. people get broken necks with pads. the old nfl didn't have pads. just leather helmets. apparently 2o people died playing it in 1905 alone. i think pads were finally added in the 40's or 50's and helmets def didn't come until the early 50's. take one of your bigger rugby players..say australian willy mason..against a monster like shawn merriman and it would be...not good. some of these fellas are over 300 pounds. i know for a fact that seahawks offensive lineman walter jones trains in the off season by tieing a rope to his car then to himself and pulling it around his yard. personally i think rugby is more f'n violent than it is rough. people tearing at eachothers ears in the scrum and such. some sports like gridiron and hockey need pads imo. anyone who disagrees i can easily arrange an ice session for ya to get checked on open ice.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

Don't get me wrong here I think rugby players are a tougher bunch than NFL players. They definitely take more punishment on the field without pads.

A couple of Jackasses from America learn the meaning of pain from the London Irish.

Let's take that comment in context man, i was saying that Football should be refered to as Football not Soccer, as how would you like it if i called American Football the above comment? Also, i played rugby at Essex, Eastern Counties and Southern England representive level. So lets not be thinking i don't know what it is to play a hard game. Fair dues the team i play for now isn't anywhere near that good, but, i still play.

As well, you ever played in NZ/Soma/South Africa. Those guys are fucking huge, those fuckers train by Pig Hunting. Not the easy way with a gun, they go into the bush with a couple of dogs, the dogs hunt the pig and corner it, then your man jumps on it with a knife and stabs the fucker to death. Before swinging it on it's shoulders and carrying it back a couple of miles. They also train tackling by having herds of sheep drove at them, because of the agility sheep have, they have to tackle them, it makes players light on their feet.

http://www.allblacks.com/index.cfm?layout=team

And they get more than a 1 yard start before they make a hit. Do they wear padding? Shinpads at a push, but the Samoan team only started wearing boots 15 years ago! Rugbys hits are massive as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8v-qZFVYnc

The current US team are a bunch of NFL rejects, how good are they at rugby? Well..... with practice or actually studying the sport from a younger level they could put together an interesting variation of rugby. I imagine it would be a much more running game. Like the South African of the 90's or to be fair to them the Tongan and Soaman teams. With a concentration on hits and open games, rather than a tech related game we find in Wales and Ireland atm, or the hopeless kicking game Englands decided to adopt.

Comparing NFL to Rugby isn't really a fair comparision. The big lads in NFL arent really expected to run a huge distant, plus they get a breather after every play. The big rugby guys, the forwards, are expected to run for the 80 minutes, make tackles, pass well and get to every ruck, which is like a mini scrimmige of sorts? In addition to this they have to learn to Scrum and line outs as well as their involvement in the backs moves. Seriously, if we're talking tactical tough physically demanding sports then Rugby imo comes out on top. Making a yard game in rugby is barely celebrated.
 How would you think the NFL would do in Rugby, shite, they'd be blowing out of their arseholes in 10 mins. We have a variation of rugby which is more like NFL, Rugby League. However this is still extremely fast paced and i would think would leave the NFL guys giving away offside penalities all the time. It could be more suited though?

Aussie attitudes to rugby league.
Rugby league world cup highlights.

Finally, and rather importantly, i never mentioned ANYTHING about NFL, i commented on the lack of padding as this is something you find with the other Galiec sport, Hurling. So why the fuck did you turn it into a personal attack on me Stanky? Just couldn't resist a dig eh?

The OP was Gaelic football, not rugby, so i dont know why it's been turned into a American sports vs. Brit sports argument. Could this be an illustration of any comment that percived to be anti American being jumped on and used for personal attacks due to people being too fucking defensive?

I think so.

The OP was promoting the International rules match, and the point remains, i hope everyone watches it. It's an amazing sporting occansion.

Classic Rugby League moment, Aussie falls a GB guy, then a GB falls the Aussie.

EDIT:

Another RL moment, guy gets a cheeky punch thrown at him, then gets him back.

Never meant it as a personal attack. I just thought your comments about pads were inferring that America football was not a rough sport or the athletes weren't tough that's all.

Shit Niall, wish i hadn't said owt now as we appear to have opened up a transatlantic ding dong again. Weird eh?
To re-iterate the original purpose of the thread....
This is international rules football, watch it, it's great, you'll like it. You don't even need to compare it up against your favourite sport, it's just good to watch. And people get battered a bit, it's fun. enjoy. peace. 8) 8)

Aaaah, that's better.

Indeed AngryPirate, it's gone beyond a joke now.

However, i still, as you, hope people will watch this. I'll try and post a online stream on the day.

Well you were the one who made the comment. Honestly, I didn't mean it as a personal attack. Nice attempt to paint me black though. Who are you quoting in the last quote? Yourself?

Yea me, i couldn't be arsed to make the point again. Considering some people prefer not to read what is put and just assume it's Anti-American, as thats the light it seems popular to put people in atm, then it is just easier to quote and quote again until people actually read it.

I' m not painting you anything, i'm simply quoting what you put. I commented on the complete lack of padding in Gaelic games, you then said you'd pay money to watch an American football player take my head off so i wouldn't talk ' slick ' about padding?

I don't think much paintings really needed. You look for any excuse to call me anti-american, you thought you had a good'un this time. It was in fact a bit of fail, as i was talking about Gaelic games.

Dude, you're completely overreacting. I never mentioned America anywhere in this thread. I have no idea where you are getting that from. Take a chill pill, smoke a spliff and relax I wasn't attacking you.

No worries man, it's just the comment of wanting to see me get my head taken off by an NFL dude made me think it was personal.

Consider it dropped.

Awesome sport...and good video too Sir Niall. Not really into GAA Football though.

I got to see the 2008 Leinster hurling final between Kilkenny and Wexford at Croke Park during my time in Dublin. My friend over there really got me into it, and i loved watching it when i could....following Tipperary 8) (as that is where he is originally from).

This reminds me of a funny time in my local in Temple Bar, where there was/is a big painting of a hurling match on the wall....and these German tourists were asking me all about the sport, i managed to blag it and sound convincing....much to the ammusement of my Irish friends.
