Language resource recommendations?

Post by dreama »

Hello!

Looking to get started on my mission to learn Dutch (or at least some) before we move out to the 'dam in the next year. Native English, and looking for a resource that comes recommended, and is relatively easy to use (like a CD). We have never learnt a language from home so prepared for a lot of work, but willing to put in the time. There is a short course starting at the local college in September, however in the meantime trying to be proactive in seeking a reliable learning tool!

Cheers!!

D x

I believe Rosetta Stones is the best about but it's pretty costly.

Yeah, £379 - although does look pretty good ... and in my idealist world where this short course makes me as fluent as a native I will have job opportunities everywhere I look.

Oh to dream :-)

If you just want to get your feet wet, try Berlitz "Dutch in 60 Minutes." About $10 on Amazon. I have that and I Lonely Planet pocket Dutch guide.

Dreama, you won't be disappointed with Rosetta Stone. It's absolutely wonderful.

We bought Volumes 1 and 2 and I love the first one. It's extremely easy to learn and I've retained almost everything so far. It really is fun...like they say :D

Tot ziens!

I've been using the free LiveMocha.com , it's full of win and awesome. Much better than spending $699 on roseta.
