Server Outage

Post by slimline »

Hi all,

Sorry for the outage today, the server has been running for 18 months and has suffered two outages in the last 5 weeks.

I think its time to install a new server and migrate all the domains to it. I will hire another server and begin the work, hopefully any outage while DNS propagates will only be a few hours.

Lemming could you please make a backup of the mysql just in case.

Pete

Thanks for sorting out whatever happened Pete. When I got in from work and logged in it was fine so I wouldn't have known it had been down if it wasn't for this thread and an email I found waiting for me.

I struggle to explain the difference between Pete and my roles in the forum but here's another attempt: There are many sites on the internet that will host forums for free. They make their money by displaying big adverts at the top of every forum page and the commercial companies behind them retain ultimate control. Pete gives the ACD forum the same service without adverts and leaves me in complete control. The only material reward he gets is the occasional donations that we send. Thanks again to you if you are one of those who's contributed.

Oh, and yes Pete, I just did a backup. If you let me know when you're about to make the move I'll do another.

Thank you for all you do, Pete.

Lem I clicked the link and it says it's in British pounds. Would Paypal convert my dollars to pounds? Sorry for my naivete' but I've never sent money via Paypal to England and had to deal with the conversion.

Thank you, cat. I figure if everyone just gave one dollar it would help Pete out a lot. I'm donating more, but if people can't afford one dollar or one pound to help Pete, they can't afford to go to the dam.

Lem never asks for ANYTHING, the least we can do is help. Thank you for all you do, Lem, it's much appreciated on my end and I'll put my money where my mouth is... anyone else?
