"NEWARK -- A Jet Blue flight leaving Newark Liberty International Airport returned to the airport this morning because an engine cover fell off the plane shortly after takeoff.
According to airport spokeswoman Jenn Friedberg, Flight 507 was leaving for Fort Lauderdale when the metal casing that covers the engine fell off about 6:15 a.m.
The plane returned to the airport and landed safely. There were no injuries or delays beyond those of the passengers on board.
Airport workers were cleaning off the debris.
A Jet Blue spokeswoman said that because of the delay, those passengers will be refunded their money and will receive a free ticket for a future flight.
