For many in the world, the first scratching ever heard in the 80s was MM.

I seen a docu about MM once and just like other things he jumped on the band wagon (with hip hop) he was a visionary who could see which way youth culture was going ! the way he was coming accross as if he invented , scratching , hip hop ! MMM i think you need to think about Afrika Bambata and , Herbie Hancock and the likes for that honour ! but he did have the vision to get in on it ! its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$

RIP though

Of course he did not invent it, but he was a creative and clever motherfucker. So much of his post-pistols music was so creative and lead us into a lot of the music we have today.
