Hydrofoil(Fastferry) to Centraal via DFDS port?

Post by indk »

Looking into an alternative form of transport from IJmuiden (port) & I came across the "Hydrofoil". Anyone had any experience with it? More importantly does anyone know where it departs from?

it is the called the fast flying ferry and it leaves from velsen zuid ... it is great fun ... here's a video

when the ferry comes up behind something slower, it just zips around like a hot-rod on a saturday night ... so cool

for the best view go the front of the boat where there are windows all around ...

Ok, thanks man. I looked up (by that I mean googled :P) "fast flying ferry" & found this http://www.connexxion.nl/over_water/23/ ... ferry/239/

On googlemaps it shows the address from that website as this: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5636/fffport.jpg

So, I just wana' confirm that's exactly where I should be heading to? I'd hate to get there while kained only to find out i'm at the wrong place

the fffport.jpg picture shows the right place

i am not sure, but i think there is a small ferry to get from Velsen Noord across the canal to Velsen Zuid (ie from north velsen to south velsen) in case you are on the north side and need to get across

there are two boats every hour

I'd quite like to go on this Hydrofoil ferry, is a day-trip to Ijmuiden worthwhile?

south of ijmuiden is the zuid kennemerland national park

dutch: http://www.npzk.nl/
english: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuid-Kenne ... ional_Park

if you are a hiker/trekker/hill-walker or someone who loves nature, then i highly recommend a walk in this park

the entrance to the park is not far from the velsen zuid ferry terminal and an outing in the park of any length (ie hour, half-day, full-day) is easily managed

there are also bicycle trails criss-crossing the park and bicycles can be carried on the ferry

You can bring a bicycle aboard the fast ferry. The ferry docks short of Ijmuiden. You can use the bike to get to the highly recommended CS Joe Cool in Ijmuiden, and then pedal south to the park.

looks like a few possible plans. checking the maps it looks like you could travel to Ijmuiden by bike through the park from Haarlem and catch the hydrofoil back to Amsterdam Centraal?

yes

the 1:20000 map for the park is entitled Wandel- en Fietskaart Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland and is published by ANWB ... here is a picture of the map ... the map shows the cycle paths and makes journey planning easy

i bought my copy from Reisboekhandel Pied a Terre, Overtoom 135-137 in Amsterdam ... the website starts in Dutch, but if you scroll down a page you can select English as the language

yes, you could cycle from Haarlem, but you can get a bit closer to the entrance to the park if you go one station further to Overveen (on the Zandvoort line)

a journey from Haarlem/Overveen through the park to Velsen Zuid ferry terminal is not only possible, but would be a total delight ... maybe pack a picnic lunch and roll a few for the road too

the park is not huge maybe only 4 by 6 kilometers, but there are many cycle paths and on a bike you could explore quite a bit of the park and even visit the beach and the sea ... and there are highland cows, deer and zillions of birds to see too

bon voyage ...

Amsterdam-haarlem (19km) take HAArleemmer straat all the way to Haarlem.onc in haarlem you need to find the N200 or overveen/bloamandaal direction ,once on n200 pass the circle road wat for the LF1 entrance here:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=52.394639, ... 01714&z=19

if you see the sea you gone too far (6km) signs for the LF1b « b for noorth bound a for south) are hard to see here on the other side of the street youll se the sing for LF1A it hinden by a branche ;) ONce on the lf1b just keep goin youll see sign for IJMUIDEN (I THINK from N200 it about 15-20kms)

i tell you too take ferry from amsterdam to IJMUIDEN and bike back ;) be easyer no to get lost ;)
by the way if youk keep goin on the n200 it will bring too Zanvort-bloemenbaal zee ;)

have fun
ill be on route soon :D
