Pauli speaks the truth,€5 a day in Recycles and €10 a day for a bright Orange byke in Overtoom...or €8 a day in Fredericks...

..and do bright orange or very obvious rental bikes get nicked more or less than normal ones, or doesnt it matter....havent hired one for years, not since me and 4 mates hired four and all four of us had them nicked (was a different time I suppose, back when the junkies ruled the streets etc, it was like the film 28 Days)..

no idea about them getting nicked, if anything id say their less likely 2get nicked, but i prefer riding round on a local looking bike & not an advertising board

The only advantage about hiring a Bright Orange Byke is after leaving a session in a C/S and being presented with a couple of hundred Black Bykes and wondering ,which ones yours??? :D ...at least the Orange bykes stick out...Still prefer the black ones tho... 8)

I've been to AMS several times and ALWAYS rent a bike for the duration of my stay (~10 days), as I do a lot of bicycling in NYC. I've used a lot of different bike rental places around Amsterdam, and they differ in selection and condition. One place I recently tried and liked is Discount Bike Rental. They had a large selection of bicycles to choose from and all in working order. A lot of other places seem to have bikes that have minor irregularities, like headlights that dont work (required by law in AMS at night - I got stopped for not having one lit.). I also dislike the tourist-looking bikes like MacBike and others with similiar form. This place Discount Bike Rental has nice low-key bikes with no advertsing other than a small sticker. I feel like you stick out poorly with those tourist bikes. Also, the guy at the Discount is very nice and accomdating, unlike the poor service you might find at other palces.

Anyway, their location, prices and selection can be found on their website:

Enjoy the biking. Its so nice to ride around there. Be sure to go to the parks too!
