Any of you guys from Scotland ever done any Pheasant hunting or trout fishing in the Highlands?

I have a special place in my heart for Scotland, as my grandfather was from there. I have thought about the possibility of getting a little place there one day where I could do a bit of bird hunting and fishing. Is that possible or does one have to be rich to do so?

I've no real experience of either Sky.
Having a nice supply of moolah can never hurt though

From personal experience, fishing is not too much of a problem. Small villages have places where you can purchase a permit ( usually the post office, or grocery store ). Day permits wont break the bank either.
I am the worlds worst fisherman. FACT :D

Geez, Cantona, Yer neck O' the woods has some of the best fishing and plenty of it. One would think it wouldn't be too difficult to snag some.

Thanks for the info, Twich, I hope to check it out one day.

I like reading. I usually read older fiction, I love to read about the past through fiction written at the time, primary sources. Honestly my favourite books are quite stereotypical however. I avoid best sellers unless they have maintained the test of time.

Musically I have been listening to mainly older stuff rocknroll, r&b, soul, funk, disco, reggae, 60s garage, blues, jazz n stuff in the last few years.

I love movies, once I dreamed of being involved but not anymore, bit of a movie snob tbh, I love to hate movies almost as much as I love when one does it for me in unexpected ways.

I love cars - the art of motoring, I love driving, something primal and almost infantile about control and speed. When I have financial security in the future I fully intend to drive on track and learn the craft, a dream if funds allowed would be to compete in someway, the ultimate would be rallying an old escort. I follow World Rallying and F1 avidly. The thing I love most about motor-racing is that one can simply support good driving rather than choose a team and devote yourself to it blindly (better word please) you can happily support the driving, go for whoever is gaining from behind and allow the race to do the talking. Take Filipe Massa for example - for me he is out of his depth, struggles in the rain and not good enough, but he can show me - prove I'm wrong about him, I welcome it.

Another sport I love and it works in a similar way, the individual does the talking and I can support a range of player, is snooker. I am totally shocked about the sting on Higgins and hope so much he turns out to be innocent, such a great player.

The big one though is science. I hope to go study maths & physics real soon (which will mean a change in my smoking habits). I suppose it started with a love of sci-fi. I love logic and critical thinking. We need to teach critical thinking in school - we are bombarded with data and mostly ill-equipped to deal with it. Did you know some people actually think Nasa didnt land on the moon in 1969!?! insane! Did you know some people actually believe Homoeopathy works!??! fucking crazy. No need to even mention creationism or the broader "observe capitalism evolve naturally and make up some controlling over-class of various species" conspiracy crud. (but i will!)

Science and logic have given us so so much and the people have become so disengaged from it. Governments do not support it! The media reports it in the worst ways imaginable and gives quack reporting unprecedented coverage because it sells. Think about how much the average hollywood movie costs or one day in Iraq and Afghanistan and compare that to the amount your government gives to science! its enough to make one cry. We can do the most amazing things - chemical scum on the surface of a rock orbiting a star and we can understand how that star burns, make amazingly accurate estimates of the age of the entire universe and manipulate electrons and photons to serve us every second of every day, scientific knowledge is the finest achievement of this animal species but it is treated as such? no. mostly we respect the artist (not that i have anything against them) and we prefer to believe fictions, fictions which are far less amazing than the truths of existence. Science can save us. Believing the stories of men, whether just stupid or well aware of their lies, cannot.

I'm pro-nuclear power, pro-vivisection, and pro-choice.

Yes, the Yankees........leading Boston 3-0 right now, in case you were wondering. :?

I actually do like the Dodgers too, lol.

They used to play in Brooklyn, Torre's the manager and Matt Kemp is a beast, what's not to like besides the fact they play in LA?

Oh yeah, with that staff they can make some serious noise this year. I'm a big Cain fan and Sanchez looks like he finally put it all together this year too. I still think they need another power bat in the lineup but the Giants should win the West this year, SD can't keep it up and the Rockies have too many injuries.

Very eloquently put.

I do wonder if by the "artist" you actually mean the entertainer -- the performer, the personality, the evangelist -- whom we (used broadly) give our money and our adoration. The actual artist, meanwhile, is by and large getting short-changed at least as much as the scientist, when it comes to doling out respect.
