UK's Liberal Democrats, polling higher than ever in the lead-up to a federal election, want to remove criminal penalties for cannabis possession and allow Dutch-style cannabis cafés.

Internal party policy documents leaked to the UK's Daily Mail suggest permitting possession, social supply to adults and cultivation for personal use. The release of the documents follows an internal party vote to make it "no longer a crime for the occupier or manager of premises to permit someone to use cannabis on those premises."

According to the Daily Mail, "cafe owners could allow customers to smoke the drug outside or buy ‘hash brownies’ and vaporised cannabis."

The news is exciting UK's cannabis community as the Liberal Democrats, who have for years been a fringe party with little popular support, have recently been thrust to the position of possible political kingmaker due to voter dissatisfaction with the reigning Labour and Conservative parties and a great performance in election debates by party leader Nick Clegg. The Liberal Democrats are expected to win up to 80 MP seats in the UK's general election on May 6, 2010.

The Liberal Democrats were the first major party in the UK to support marijuana legalization according to the BBC and have assured voters that they would stop cannabis prosecutions if elected. Clegg has in the past suggested that heroin and other drugs should be legalized and regulated as a way to reduce harm and crime. He said drug prohibition restricts "individual freedom and civil liberties" and has argued that drug offenses should not lead to imprisonment.

As a Member of the European Parliament in 2002, Clegg advocated partially decriminalizing the sale of cannabis and taking measures to "make the fight against organised crime and trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances more effective, by establishing a system of legal control and regulation of production, sale and use of currently illegal substances."

"We need a total overhaul of the system so that classifications are based on facts rather than the prevailing mood of tabloid newspapers or home secretaries," he said in 2007 as the Home Office was reviewing drug policy. "If you're interested in reducing harm, you need to revisit the spectrum of drugs, both legal and illegal and categorize them according to the evidence."

"We will always base drugs policy on the independent scientific advice of experts," a Liberal Democratic spokesman told the press in response to the leaded documents.

road toll charges on top of your road tax,
50% of your road tax taken away from the upkeep of the roads for them to invest in so called green technology,
mandatory big brother black boxes in each vehicles to track their movements,
treating peadophiles & murderers as products of a failed society,
& worst of all, giving even more power to the european union, AND JOINING THE EURO,

then whatever you do, DONT vote lib dems on the off chance they MAY legalize cannabis

the parts about petrol tax rises, & road tax being diverted & joining the euro are all from the lib dems own mouth, dont EVER forget that the lib dems are a party founded from ex labour mp's who thought labour was too leftwing, so formed their own party with some conservatives called the 'social democrats' which later formed with the liberal party (a party who's main objective even in the 1930's was free trade (raping of poor countries by the worlds elite), even 2weeks ago clegg was left red faced when his leaders debate plans were left in a minicab stating that he should be more like cameron,
dont think im a labour supporter either (would have been 30 odd years ago when the likes of tony benn ran things) but no way would i support NEW labour, & the tories... please, i have more h8 for them than any other party,
im not gonna vote because their is genuinely no party i want to vote for,
if their was a party that said
no income tax or vat (fund all projects with money from our vast oil & gas reserves like in the mid east)
no fuel tax at all
cut down the armed forces so its just a defensive force, not an imperialistic bully
& most important, take power away from government & give it to each local authority, real grass roots democracy, not like now where only 1person has to be bribed to take an entire country 2war (blair)

are there only 3 names on the ballot there? can you do write ins or are there lesser popular canidates who made the ballot? whos in the lead so far? is anyone favored to win? i heard there may be a stalemate and no one will have enough seats to win?

3 main ones.. yeah.. there are others but they don't get nowhere near as much coverage as these three...

It doesn't matter who gets in they're all lying tossers at the end of the day. If it's a hung parliment Brown keeps his fat ass at No 10.. pah.

some serious fuck ups at polling stations

Three polling stations ran out of papers, a good few didn't have an up to date register, one allowed people to poll till 10:15 and others closed on time but with a que of 100+ people out side. there is going to challenge and counter-challenge if it is a hung parliament

so is similiar to the 2000 us election? sounds even more like it now.

I was unable to vote, despite being registered (as always)

My polling station was in a local pub but my work took me away today.
Voting seems to be stuck in such Victorian days/ways. I'm self employed and couldn't make it back home to vote, despite still being in the UK but out of my county.

What have I got to do? take the day off to place a cross on a piece of paper?

Defo looking like a hung parliament, The Great British People have spoken, and we have no faith in Any Party....

Labour held thier seat in my burgh, therfore, my vote was pointless.
