Thanks for the heads up Doog but unfortunately I found out a few days after I booked my trip that my favourite football team (Man Utd) are playing a tournament in Amsterdam the weekend after I go.
That sucks but as I think I previously pointed out; my luck with watching football matches in Amsterdam is awful!! Still - maybe I can see the Rolling Stones instead (30/7/06).....just a shame i'm a Beatle fan instead

Rolling Stones in Amsterdam would surely make up for a couple kick abouts featuring your favourite team and the Rolling Stones concert would probably be cheaper.Valo wrote:Still - maybe I can see the Rolling Stones instead (30/7/06).....just a shame i'm a Beatle fan instead
Personally I think the Beatles early stuff brings them down compared to the later tracks. If the Beatles were still together as a band today, I would probably rather still see the Stones.
The Amsterdam Tournament is usually broadcast on Sky Sports so you may still get a chance to see some of the action.
I have been to the ArenA twice to see Ajax in Dutch league matches and I've taken the stadium tour once as well. Great atmosphere both times and it is so easy to reach from Centraal Station as well.

Ok, I am only biased because I think John Lennon is the greatest all around musician of all time, but I can never understand why the Stones had such a big following when so many of their songs had similar sound. I know you can say that about a lot of bands, but never the Beatles - the early stuff may be a bit tacky, lovey-dovey, boy meets girl music...but they had to start somewhere and I will be ever grateful they did. (I actually think the debut album is quite catchy!)
I would love to do the tour of the Amsterdam Arena also - but an Ajax match would be a lot more exciting to watch than an empty stadium.

The Beatles later stuff certainly sounded different. Thing was that it also sounded shit, whereas the Stones were just your good ol, rock n' roll band who went by the rule "if it ain't broke then don't fix it", which kind of works with bands of that era but not bands/artists of today (prime example being The Streets)
Brian Jones wasn't in the Rolling Stones when he died.
He was in a swimming pool.
And I can personally vouch for the Ajax match being more exciting than the stadium tour. When I went for the tour, the two guides (one male, one female) could only speak Dutch or English.
There were some pretty pissed off Germans among the group that day.
