The thread brought back a few bad memories and I admit that I totally lost the plot over the past couple of days. I didn't want to have to bring my private life into it but it had reached the stage where people were just knocking down everything I said and I had to explain my reasons for being offended.

Be yourself Doog, just keep it real man. You came here to research A'dam before your trip. I guess in doing so you also made some "friends".

Yes, there are members on this forum who'll shoot you down when you say something that could be taken as offensive (regardless if you have been offended by another post)... we're all different and you gotta live and let live.

The key to sucsess is to never burn your bridges, engage brain before mouth and if something happens that you don't like, ignore it. You have contributed massivley to this forum and you have allowed poeple to grow to like/dislike you for you views and opinions, don't ruin it with a few public outbursts. Maybe if you feel strongly enough to speak out, PM. We are all good speakers and equally good listeners.

I am part way through a possible divorce as we speak (the bottom line is do I stay OR do I go), I am battling (inside my head) with my beliefs/faith and my emotions over the death of my Gran, I have an EX wife who gives me hell over everything and a Wife that also gives me hell over everything, A step-son who gives me hell over everything, a son who don't live with me who I miss imensely ALL the time... life aint that good but you gotta keep on smiling (or trying at least) and I am giving you advice on how to keep a healthy relationship alive (all be it a forum membership).... :? ... I just put that in to make you aware that we all have skeletons but my skeltons don't affect how and what I post on here...

Trust me mate, I speak words of wisdom.

Let's keep a sense of humor about ourselves if nothing else. Hell look at what I've chosen for my screen name. If we can'nt laugh at our selves then I guess we shouldn't laugh at anyone else.

Yep, I think now I have laid my cards on the table for the benefit of Rez and DC and it was all rather unfortunate and rather silly and something I would rather forget about altogether.

It seems to be my place in this forum to agree (superfluously?) with DC and Rez. It seems to me that these issues are “on heavy rotation” in the media and public debate. By “these issues” I mean what is basically a question of free speach and the issue of mental illness.

Concerning the first one; No matter what the topic, it is in no ones interest to do any form of censorship (neither on yourself nor onto others) since one of the benefits of free speech is that it exposes exactly what is the view of whomever speaks. If that view (either in a serious debate or any other framework) is ignorant this is exactly what is exposed, ignorance on the part of the speaker. That is why, when Nazis, religious totalitarian extremists and the rest of the scum of the earth speak out, it only serves to hinder the spread of said evil. Let idiots talk and thus help the world know them for what they are…

Concerning mental illness as a humorous topic; I’m afraid that the “culture of mental illnesses”, i.e. that according to “surveys” at least 1 in 5 in our modern day culture has a mental disorder so severe that is requires medical attention and treatment, an absurd number of criminals getting their sentence reduced or nullified because of “mental hardships” etc. etc., actually demands a response from what many believe to be a very important tool in forming public opinion; the comedians and other providers of humour. It is sad to see how many people supposedly suffer from “depression, eating disorders and/or [insert what ever you want]” and how this perpetuates thru our world.

I am more than aware of how serious mental (or any other scientifically proven) illness can be, both from personal and professional experience (I do not see the need to elaborate further). However, the seriousness of the topic to some, but not all, and under some, but not all, circumstances, does not bar others from enjoying a laugh or two about what, to them, is a funny subject in exactly that context. I have even know a lot of people suffering from different illnesses, both mental and physical, to be some of the most vivid jokers on exactly their particular illness.

Again, nothing of this takes away the tragedy I can be when people are faced with the, sometimes, cruel facts of reality. In my opinion the eventuality of any of these cruelties to strike any one of us is a further motivation to enjoy everything life has to offer; friends, fun, love, weed and humour not being the least parts of that.

Cheers all…

Celebrate we will, cuz life is short but sweet for certain.

... er, what you said, ... was the bollocks mate  nice one. The topic was closed but it was quite nice to read a well written and concise reply.

The joke could be taken as in jest of the suferers, in fact it's just as much a piss take of the kinda shit we all have to put up with when phoning near enough ANY organisation these days.
