also isn't it a fact that many if not most rapes are perpetrated by an assailant known to the victim? surely that throws your numbers out even more in terms of this discussion.

OP, you might want to try a vaporiser cos it's easy to hit. various shops have them.. search the forum. In fact there's lots of threads for newbs on this forum, search around i suppose the most important thing is not to take too many tokes all at once. have a blast, enjoy cannabis (it's excellent!)

Best advice I can give is relax, don't take it all so seriously or you'll end up stressing yourself out and giving yourself a panic attack or something.

Definitely ask a bud tender for advice.

Stick to the lower strength buds at first, your tolerance will build. Whiteys are a bit jibby, if you have one it's not pleasant, but you wont OD etc. Just be sensible man, smoking weed is meant to enhance your experience, smoking too much of too strong weed will not enhance your experience. I wouldn't recommend my female friends to get stoned of their ass's and walk around the city, i wouldn't recommend my female to get smashed and walk around London/Manchester/Newcastle etc. it's not because Amsterdam is particularly dangerous, but it's because it's common sense.

Enjoy yourself, take the usual precautions and you'll be fine. And if you feel you want to get extremely high, do what most people do and smoke in the hotel room with a heap of munch.

I guarentee some of you have scared this poor las off for good.

Thanks Niall, I think you managed to say what I was trying to get at significantly better than I did.

The only reason I brought up rape, was to try to demonstrate that women have concerns that men don't generally have to have. (Which was why I had separated it from the original discussion of Amsterdam.) Not passing out in public has pretty much always been the very first piece of advice I received as a woman about substances and personal safety.

(Not to say that men are not also the victim of rapes and that male rape is not equally horrible when it happens.)

It's not just WEED. There's a city outside the coffeeshop to take into consideration as well, not everyone in Amsterdam is a chilled out hippy stoner wanting to toke up and be friendly. It's like every city in the world man, when i visited Van City i read in some books to keep my wits about me, personally i felt safe in the city, but people do need to be aware of the possible issues of big cities. Issues which are further compounded when one is mashed off their tits wandering around the town late at night lost.

No but you should be aware of your limits and your surroundings before you go and while you are there. Ok, so the OP might not know her limits with smoking but how many first timers go to the city and get so wrecked they get "twatted" or mugged or raped? Not many. But I hear ya, it only has to happen once.

I get what you are saying of course. Amsterdam is by no means a haven of safety. But generally, being savvy when it comes to looking after your own safety should pay dividends. Don't assume the OP is a thicko who thinks they can float through the city, wrecked with bundles of euros sticking out their pockets. Chances are she has already clued herself up.

I would say Amsterdam (Centrum) is a fairly safe place for a lone traveller; male or female. Common sense with regard to money and belongings etc.

I sure wouldn't go for a whitey-inducing smoke experience though!

Go for the Orange bud or a Jamaican/Thai to start - nothing wrong with them at all imo - nice uplifting high that won't mong you out. I usually start out with a super polm hash and build from there

if you`re no experienced smoker you should start with a vaporizer and if you like it, stay with it, smoking is bad for the lungs anyway

if you start with a joint/pipe you should get yourself some imported weed/hash
