Bloody Sunday.

Post by Sir Niall of Essex-sire »

Sensitive subject i know, however i'm glad that the state acknowledges the truth and the families have some justice. Hopefully this will bring some peace those directly or indirectly affected by the day and its events. Fair play to Cameron as well, saying what alot of British people have thought for a long time.

Even though the rest of the murderers during the Troubles got released under Good Friday?

I think this enough, i mean if the Widegery (sp?) report was actually accurate then it would of been more reasonable to ask for detainment. What's imprisioning the grunts on the ground going to do anyway, they've been disgraced, by a Tory Prime Minister no less.

Alot of the families aren't chasing convictions anyways, they've been reserved and magnificently dignified, i think turning this into a witch hunt wouldn't be in keeping with this.

Justice needed to be served, it was IMO, those killed were vindicated of all crimes and those Para's on the ground have been revealed as being in the wrong. Also i think Savilles conclusion is along the lines of what i believe after studying over there the people and the aftermath of the Troubles. The British Government didn't send the Para's there to kill people, but they chose them knowing their previous history of roughing people up, the commanders are the real responsible people.

Well, that would be the real IRA. They had the guy that done it man, everyone knows that, he'll never be charged because in Ireland you can't be charged with the same crime twice.

EDIT: This was the event that singled the demise of the real IRA.

So now we have to differentiate bewteen murderers?. If yer gonna let them all out, then let them all out, otherwise send them all back to where they belong.

just a few facts no one has mentioned

the mails reporter was pulled into a doorway by a local when the first shots were fired and told that is a thompson firing

the ira commander, martin mcguinness was known to have a thompson and was pictured that day with it

on film footage, shots can be heard and troops seen taking cover behind landrovers before they returned fire

one so called innocent victim was found to have a stash of nail bombs when searched in the mortuary

the march itself was illegal and infiltrated by the ira
RIP Lee Rigby

Bloody Sunday was such a sticky subject as to why there are no big inquiries
into the Paramilitaries murders because this was a professional army representing a peace keeping force. The Paramilitaries were always dirty murdering bastards and made no secret of that, wheras the Paras were represnting the crown, and to shoot dead 13 people in a civil rights march was just deplorable no matter whio infiltrated it, they were soldiers and should have conducted themselves as such and 7 the 13 were fucking teenagers ffs.And the result was that the parachute regiment was the best recruiting tool the IRA ever had. I know around that time my father took many a beating from the UDR or otherwise for no other reason other than he was a Taig. Thank fuck them days are over.
There is alway these one sided arguments why the curly haired prick Mc Guiness being photographed with a Thompson, well I never seen it, but I have seen apic of Good ole Pete Robinson with an ak47 and a red beret on and Willie Mc Crae sharing a podium with none other than king rat and presiding over the funerals of the 2 uvf men who murdered the members of the Miami Show Band , oh tell us about Ian Paisley and Ulster Resistance too. Double standards much Gixxer. Both sides are just as guilty mate, no one is whiter than white in N. Ireland, being from Belfast YOU of all people should know that.

'New Allegations Martin McGuinness a British Spy' its all divide & conquer, id wager that the majority of the 'IRA' activity was British intelligence led. I just hope ALL the fools dont play their game again. Im looking at it from an outside perspective. i dont root for the ra or the unionists. fuck em all (pardon) too many innocents getting killed because of their pathetic sheep like behavior.

Kent State was 70

I being catholic...knew there was fighting
but I looked this up

Narrative of events
Main article: Narrative of events of Bloody Sunday (1972)
The people planned on marching to the Guildhall, but because of army barricades designed to reroute the march it was redirected to Free Derry Corner. A group of teenagers broke off from the march and persisted in pushing the barricade and marching on the Guildhall. They attacked the British army barricade with stones. At this point, a water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets were used to disperse the rioters. Such confrontations between soldiers and youths were common, though observers reported that the rioting was not intense.[25] Two civilians, Damien Donaghy and John Johnston were shot and wounded by soldiers on William Street who claimed the former was carrying a black cylindrical object.[26]

At a certain point, reports of an IRA sniper operating in the area were allegedly given to the Army command centre. At 4:07 pm Brigade gave the British Parachute Regiment permission to go in to the Bogside. The order to fire live rounds was given, and one young man was shot and killed when he ran down Chamberlain Street away from the advancing troops. This first fatality, Jackie Duddy, was among a crowd who were running away. He was running alongside a priest, Father Edward Daly, when he was shot in the back. Continuing violence by British troops escalated, and eventually the order was given to mobilise the troops in an arrest operation, chasing the tail of the main group of marchers to the edge of the field by Free Derry Corner.

Despite a cease-fire order from the army HQ, over a hundred rounds were fired directly into the fleeing crowds by troops under the command of Major Ted Loden. Twelve more were killed,[27] many of them as they attempted to aid the fallen. Fourteen others were wounded, twelve by shots from the soldiers and two knocked down by armoured personnel carriers.

I have a real hard time understanding this

the military was cleared to fire on civilians
