I've got purple clover which is taking over my grass :(
Trust me the camera flatters mine a lot, it looks good from the house
But get up close & there is a fair bit of yellow & still a few bald patches
And starting with it last year as an almost complete reseed no Feed & weed allowed for 18 months to 2 years
So there are dandelions, docs & bindweed in it at least
So the regime is regular (about twice a week at the peek) cutting, feeding with the liquid once a fortnight (they say once a month)
and watering when needed which about a month ago was everyday

So, I woke up this morning...........that's all, I woke up.

The world was still here, so was my stash, and my camera. Thought I'd make use of it. Here is where I'm at. First off, the now customary game of, name that seedling  . We have established the Cali-poppy seedlings, so no more pics of them. How about these?

Image
There is not many of these baby's came up, maybe 4. Pretty little things. I transported one to a pot, in the hope that if the planters get too crowded, I'll have at least one.

Next up, one that looks like a fake clover  . A few more of these have come up, but this one shows the most vigour, maybe because it has grown from beneath one of the bedding plants, so has been shaded from the simply ugly weather over the last week or so.
Image

Thirdly, one there is quite a number of. Quite vigorous too, most are smaller than this one, this is the daddy :D
Image
I have, again, potted up a few of these separately.

Forth kind that I have found are these tentacled freaks. Not too many of these. A dozen or so at various differing stages of growth. I broke the long tentacle on the one I transported to a new home...I hope It can recover.
Image

And the fifth, and from what I can find, final variety in the planters, are these wispy wee dudes.
Image
There are a few of those, but they have such weak little stems that most are between lying flat, and slightly upright. Its strange, but I'm not fucking with them, nature shall decide there fate.

So, now I've done some thinning out ( used 10 plant pots, planting maybe three to four seedlings in each pot ) in yer basic seedling soil....Leaving the planters to look like this...
Image
Image

I'm happy to leave em like this. Although, this small patch is very crowded.
Image
Do you think I should leave it to sort itself out, or give it a helping hand?

Finally ( Sorry for the long, picture laden post ) my selection of pots...
Image

What I haven't shown, is the small patch of garden I dug up, fenced off, and planted maybe 30 small seedlings, mostly poppy's, directly into the shitey soil. They appear to have taken, but growthy is slow. Would feeding this patch of the garden with some palntfood benifit the babies, or would it be overkill?

Oh  , and since Boners eagle eye spotted the potplant  , can anyone spot it now?

No 1 has the look of a lupin about it, did you put any lupin seeds in?
At the moment what's in my garden is mostly sparrows
I bought this the other day just to see what the birds would think about them

Image

And the sparrows love them a whole squadron of them have been going ape every time I put some out
There must have been 20 to 30 in there at one point yesterday

This weeks flower of the week is the other oriental poppy I have

Do Lupins have a similar look to the Scarlet Sage?....if so, I think I may have had a pack of them.
When I bought the seeds, I looked for bright, striking colours on the pack. Having done a bit googling (basically, I looked through all the seeds on the homebase website  ) I think I bought, Poppies, Lupins, Dahlias and Salvia ( Scarlet Sage...that fucking red man 8) )...plus two other packs which I really can't remember. Overkill?
I think some of them should have been sown indoors, but fook it :P

We gave up giving the birds mealworms because of the starlings, if they get a chance the robins come in abundance for them.

they are still wee babies and the food might too much too soon, best to wait until they are a bit more substantial ... chicken manure pellets are easy to handle and smell up the neighbourhood nicely

Er I haven't got a clue on that... but it looks very lupin like

I love them but Lupin aphid is a right bugger

The local starlings took a few days to catch on but not getting too many yet
I know where the nearest nest is, as about 4 times in the last few weeks I have seen one of the magpies trying to get in to it

But it has been well funny watching the sparrows, as the adults have been bring all the young ones out for a feed
As I said a whole squadron of them :D

Yesterday, I dug up more garden ( I have two Blisters on my hands, so extream, think, the Stigmata  )I was pulling up rocks so large, that I broke a spade too!
After turning over the soil a bit, it actually looked alright. So I palnted my new  Heuchera plant straight into the ground. I have no Idea if it will survive, but it looks ace  . It's the Licorice variety, the leaves are a sublime, deep purple, almost black, and the stems are long, and a lighter purple. I love it. I may get a couple more. I'll grab a picture if anyone cares, as soon as my camera is charged...Stoney bank-holiday Mondays Rule!

I hate to inform you of this, but from that post I must say it sounds like you have officially been bitten by the bug
(Addiction is just one step away)
Look forward to seeing the photos

Mine is just ticking over nicely now gave the aubrietia a radical hair cut and got some lettuces in the ground last week
so most of the time at the mo its just grass cutting and dead heading oriental poppies and lupins with a bit of watering as well
and the bit of next doors that I am sort of doing is starting to look something like
I will take some more photos of it soon

very impressive effort

isn't it amazing how the ground can be transformed with a little bit of work

Right at this moment, I am watching repeats of Gardeners world on Blighty, channel 534 on Sky. I would be bitten harder, but this time next week, I have a month of travel, so I am still sorting out lots of stuff!

Edit. SS67. You two Gardening freaks posted at the same time I think. I love yer enthusiasm.

Very true, It's also immensely satisfying when you stand back and see what you have managed to do

Here ya go. Taken after watering like, 10 minutes ago. I trimmed off a few of the larger, and more droopy, older stems yesterday before planting. Would it benefit from a more severe haircut?

Beautiful plant right?

I intend to dig it up again later in the year, along with any of the other seedlings that take in the bed, then bulk up the bed I have dug with some compost or other soil suggestions you may make. Eventually having a nice raised bed running almost all the way down the side of the garden. Btw, that is a small selection of the rocks that came out the ground yesterday
