@ U.Ron: I hear ya' man. I thought there were smoking cars or something. My head went to the NYC subways and NE Corridor trains where it's possible to walk from one car to another. THAT's why I asked! The last thing I'd want to do is make a case for the anti-legalization cadre out there.
@ Boner: Thanx for the locker info.
Am I to take it by everyone's silence on the matter that any of the shops within 500 meters of the central station are smokeworthy? I'm kinda leaning toward Central, where I can go out on the terrace to taste their wares. Any other recommendations?
I Hear Ya, Keep the Advice Comin'
Re: I Hear Ya, Keep the Advice Comin'
No more smoking in trains throughout Europe. Stopped a couple of years ago IIRC. Restricted smoking in stations as well, designated smoking areas and all that. Cool by me.iRon wrote:@ U.Ron: I hear ya' man. I thought there were smoking cars or something. Not to sound like a hypocrite, but back in the day (mid-late 1970's), a few of us would light-up on the 'T' when riding back from a concert at The Boston Garden (FleetCenter now TD Garden). We always rode the last train of the night, in the last car (wagon to some). Since the cars weren't interconnected, nobody in the other cars knew that we were smoking weed. These cars were similar to the old style trams used in Amsterdam, except the ones in Boston smelled like urinals. Nasty.
As for smoke-worthy shops within 500 meters of Centraal Station with a terrace or outside smoking area, this is Amsterdam remember? Go to the Amsterdam Map (look at the top-left of this page). Scroll down to 'Other Maps', click on Centrum. Basically, nearly everything from the station to Block 5 is within 500 meters. Click on the circled numbers to read info and reviews.
Haarlemmer Straat (towards Barneys) - The Rokerij II and Doors
Just off the Damrak is de Kuil/420, a most excellent establishment.
One last shop I will mention is Homegrown Fantasy. Try their version of the Cheese.
Have a good time.
PS - Don't fuck up and get busted smoking on a train. If caught, they will search you and your belongings. Buy any gear for home use or friends? If so, more than 30 grams? You are a dealer and will go to jail. Scared straight yet? ''
@balou1999: Yeh, sorry 'bout the separate thread, I thought I was replying within the same thread, but the forum kicked my reply out to a separate thread.
@ URon: Playing the scared straight routine with me is endearing, bro, but you don't have to. I already know about the 5 gm limit per shop, and the 30 gm possession ordinance. Oh, as tempting as it might be to bring home some souvenirs, there is just no fuckin' way I'd risk it. There might be fine lines between bold, bravado, ballsy and machismo, but the bold line on the other side is just dumb.
The most any conservative Dutch citizen is going to see in me is an appreciative foreign visitor to their cool country.
Head down, even keel, and smooth waters ahead.

P.S. Thanx for the CS suggestions too. I've read that some are too commercial, or are trying to make a million bucks as quick as they can. I don't mind spending hard-earned money on connoisseur-grade herb, but I want to steer clear of the rip-offs.

That is not a drug. It’s a leaf.
Cool that you caught most of the intent of my suggestion(s). I wasn't trying to scare or intimidate you (the scared straight line was a jab at the Scared Straight Program). My intent was/is to inform, stimulate thought, and to pay forward that which has been given to me (wisdom through teachings and experience). Wish everyone had this attitude, and not just with visiting The Netherlands.iRon wrote: The most any conservative Dutch citizen is going to see in me is an appreciative foreign visitor to their cool country.

There are a number of C/S's that some might consider a 'tourist trap' with the majority of those being within your distance criteria of 500 meters from the Centraal Station. One point of view I have heard, and to a SLIGHT degree find plausible through personal experience, is that the farther away one gets from the Centraal Station/inner city area, the C/S's atmosphere, employees, clientele, and gear tend to improve.iRon wrote: I've read that some are too commercial...
The areas nearest to Centraal Station (including the RLD and the Damrak up to The Dam and immediate surrounding area) are also where 'look-e-loo' tourists go to observe the elusive cannabis user in one of their natural habitats '' These are also the areas where the dreaded 'cannabis tourists' (Chavs, White Trash, Wannabe OG's, Punks, Weekend/Holiday Fuck-All's, etc... (it's all about attitude)) tend to congregate.
You seem to have the right attitude, so you shouldn't have any difficulties finding what you seek. Just choose wisely.
Don't forget, no smoking on trains. Many of us who live in Europe rely heavily on this system of transportation and don't want increased drug patrols. '8)'
