Alex Higgins, 61 - not surprised at all as he's looked so ill and frail recently.

still think one of his best matches was the 82 semi final,,,the hurricane v the whirlwind

Me too, it's a shame another norn irish sporting legend had to go before his time.

It's a bigger shame some of them have to go out the way the do. Both George best and Higgins weren't just good at their sports, they were 'gifted' at them. Reap the Hurricane, eh. Atleast Joey Dunlop went out in a blaze if glory still at the top of his...but that was a shame too.

id go 1step further & say they were both the best in the world at their sports, they just didnt know how to handle the fame at such a young age, i know alot of people dont like man utd but im sure every1 would agree that having some1 like ferguson to guide these youngsters is the best possible thing, i remember seeing the sir alex/david frost interview couple years back & he said how he wanted to sign gazza, i like to think he would have kept him on the straight & narrow

the words hero and legend are used a lot to describe sportsmen but joey really was both.

The thing with Best and Higgins is that they personify the meaning of passion for a sport but are also falliable. Both were great, both were real people warts and all and the biggest shame for both of their careers was ( in the words of Parky ) we the public we deprived seeing them continue what would surely of been a glistening career.

He was my favourite snooker player, simply because he was fast and quick but still damn good. I still remember the days when snooker players were allowed to smoke and drink between their shots and it was all shown on TV regardless. RIP

I remember his 1st final in donkeys years that was back in the early 1990`s,He lost that time but played some great snooker in the earlier rounds! it was a pitty as everyone wanted him to win .
