This place is bad. Convenient for meeting people, sure, but as people have said it is totally overpriced - I never even bought anything except a Coke - and the staff I found to be so jaded by tourists they just don't give a fuck. Maybe it does have a party atmosphere at night as some people have claimed, but given that nowhere's been allowed to sell both booze and weed for a while I doubt it even has that now.

Avoid.

Grasshopper 2 (Oudebrugsteeg)

Post by CPB »

I was on a 4 day visit last weekend and out of all the coffeeshops i visited only this one really let me down.
The dealer was extremely rude (along the lines of us asking him to see the smoking menu only to be greeted with a grunt and a pointed finger), although tbh i can deal with that, he's not the first dutch dealer that thinks he is the coolest thing around, and that he can treat you as he likes.

The real clincher came next! We bought 2 grams of Jack Herrer(or possibly blueberry, i really cant remember which) after which our extremely helpful navigation aide pointed at the drinks bar and said 'you must buy drinks now'.

Again i could even deal with this, however, we turned to look at the smoking area immediately behind us to check for free seats etc when the guy behind the drinks bar greeted us with the well known and highly respectful greeting of 'Hey you! You must buy drink!'

Well the fact that we were standing at the foot of the stairs exiting the place helped with our immediate exit and i even threw in a smile to the 2 guys for free!

Avoid.

Oh and.....rant over! :D

This is the 3 floor one right?

I only went there once, on that trip it was actually the first place we went to. I think I had Shiva and it was actually really nice. Great music too.

For my upcoming trip I am staying just down the road from Grasshopper 1 so might give that a try.

Yeah, the 3 floors one.

Well in fairness i only experienced the lower floor, cant really say anything else about the rest of the buidling.

Seriously tho, walk straight past it. Warmoesstraat is adjacent to it so theres no end of other options.

Very Pricey and touristy. Nice idea with the 3 levels but the bud is seriously expensive for what you are getiing. I also found the bud tender to be somewhat abbrasive. I can understand that these guys must have to deal with morons all the time but the group I travel with is always respectful, courteous and polite and just have always found the tender there to be really unhappy to see anyone.

AWFUL!
Rude staff who expected us to buy a drink before we got seats. Then when we walked out the budtender chased us outside and tried to start a fight with 4 of my friends.
