The thing that gets me most about England is that the majority of the talk has been about someone who has yet to kick a ball in the tournament.

Personally I think that it will be Peter Crouch who makes way for Rooney's return (should have kept that robot dance going mate :!:  )

You'll be watching the programmes and all the guys will be grinning like Cheshire cats as the "boy wonder" takes to the stage.

Unlike the other England players, if Rooney doesn't perform then it won't be his fault as he came back too soon and there's always the next World Cup and why wasn't Jermaine Defoe or Darren Bent in the squad in the first place. (Sven's big club bias?)

I would prefer to see England play Germany in the second round although a match against Ecuador could also be interesting as it will be one of those that England have won before a ball is even kicked and then..........

Anyway, enough England talk (from me anyway)

I am lucky enough to have watched every single game so far off sick for 6 weeks due to an op on my head, and i have to say i fancy the spanish have impressed me, they ripped the ukraine and shevchenko apart. And for once they didnt fall apart after going a goal down to tunisia. But being english i would love to see ENGLAND win, just getting a few smokes ready for the germany, ecuador match.
I smoke, therefore i am

WOW we actually pulled off a tie with Italy. Best team I've seen so far is Argentina. Talk about ball control.

Well done England, you boys got there in the end and got probably the easier game against Ecuador as well in the second round on Sunday.

Sweden/Germany should be a good one.

I would have thought that, with England having nothing to lose at the start, Theo Walcott may have had a little time on the pitch but Sven was more determined not to lose the game after the early injury to Michael Owen. It seems very apparent now that Sven's decision to select Walcott in the first place is coming under increased scrutiny from all corners.

I will actually miss Australia's final group match against Croatia due to work commitments. Game starts at 2000 UK time and I start work at 1900.
Same applies to the Netherlands/Argentina match tomorrow which could also be an interesting game.

Job done and now we're definitely in the easier half of the draw.

If there is an easy half, Likely oponents include Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Germany or Argentina in the final! :D

Hmmmmm.

First half we were excellent, Joe Coles goal could end up being goal of the tournament, now the second half one word comes to mind clueless we didn't know what to do and fair play to Sweden for getting the draw they needed, if we carry on playing like we did in the first half we could win the damn thing but I think we'll see more second half performances as the tournament goes on, c'mon England!!

Defending still looked a little too shaky at times (especially second Sweden goal) but England do have the players further up the field who can change a game for the better.

Cole's goal was an absolute beauty no doubt about it, and Wayne Rooney's performance must have been very encouraging. The guy was everywhere on the pitch, chasing everything, always wanting to be involved in the play.

Obviously have a great chance of further progression against Ecuador on Sunday although I'm sure England will find a way to make it hard for themselves and the supporters.

Beckham in my opinion is not the man to have near post.

A near post defender needs to attack the ball if it's in range and not be so square on. Stick crouch on the near post and you can guarentee all the crosses will be far post. Now our defenders will be able to deal with that.

Owens out for 5 months apparrently, this could be a blessing in disguise as we can have Rooney as the sole striker with a 5 man midfield behind him, Owen Hargreves as the holding midfielder which would let Cole, Beckham, Lampard & Gerrard attack.

Agree totally, England's MAIN strength is the midfield and some of the criticism directed towards Owen Hargreaves has been a little unjust at times. He knows what his job is and he does it.

really hasnt been owens tournament, hes been playing poorly and that was his game to prove himself....so he ends up injurin himself badly!

anyone reckon theo walcott will get a game at all? i dont i think his only chance of playin was in the group stages if we were winning, seeing as svens already under severe scrutiny for bringin him i dont think he'll risk it!

shame for the lad though ( its strange callin someone a lad at my age but hes younger than me :O)
