hey Pauli, did you use the liquid flux method or just try reflowimg the solder with a blow torch? Reason for asking is that mine went down on me last week, stripped it, heat gunned it at 400 fOR a liTtle while, cooled for two hours and still ylod. Saw a few vids stating to use liquid flux, if you didnt use any i may just need to be more ruthless with the heat gun lah...

@hulldj, not sure what liquid flux is? i used thermal compound from maplins, i fixed this the same night, took about 2hours, but 50mins of that is waiting for the board to cool down, its still working, just hope it continues until after xmas (when the logitec g27 makes an appearance) last fix worked for 3months, if i can get 2il be happy,
+dont be scared of the heat gun just make sure its constantly being moved/rotated & not left to heat up a certain spot for too long,

follow this tutorial, its impossible to go wrong, the hardest thing i found was taking off the very 1st screw  (which holds cover in place), drilled it out & now my cover slips on/off, (which is actually a good thing, cos it will need to be removed each time its repaired)

I was gonna try this, but there are people on ebay who will do the lot for £20 (plus postage to them) - and they allege to reseat both cpu and gpu using their infra-red reflow station.

if they give you more than a 6month guarantee, definatly go for it, but as far as im aware none do because their is no permanent fix, some claim to have ovens & this &that, but tbh it can all be done just as good for about £6 (price of compound) as long as youv got a heat gun

Cheers Pauli, pulled the link from your other post yesterday.

Spent the last 3 hours following instructions and plugged it in and.................... :D :D :D :D :D

It worked... in went Black Ops... updated and all went well. Crashed once but so did the rest of the team.. Apparently been doing it since the 1.03 update.

MW2 worked great. No crashes. Gave it a 2 hour run and all is well.

Thanks for the link, better than the ones I orig found. Really appreciated.

£7.99 for paste, £12.99 for a litre tin of Iso, so plenty left for next time.
