I know everyones going to say it's bullshit but smoking ciggies can cause heart problems so I dont see why smoking cannabis couldn't of been a factor in her death.

She is from the UK. She mixes her joints with tobacco. Smoking tobacco causes heart problems. It's pretty likely she smoked straights too.
Did she drink alcohol? Regularly consume caffeine? What were her eating habits? How often did she exercise?
Jesus christ. "The direct cause of her death was cardiac arrest because of a history of smoking cannabis." How the fuck can they possibly say that

Maybe she didnt smoke cigarettes. If so the coroner is justified in saying that her cannabis smoking caused the heart damage associated with smoking.startled-giraffe wrote:She is from the UK. you make a big leap claiming its pretty likely she smoke straights. its not that likely, plenty of people who use tobacco in joints outright refuse cigarettes. though really you have no idea how likely or unlikely it was.
Smoking anything causes problems, hot weed smoke, even water-cooled weed smoke, the paper wrapped around your joint. Jesus theres not even any convincing long-term evidence that vapourising is "safe" but you are all happy to assume it is.
safe = causes no damage, not the same as safer which is easy!

I'm saying it's likely. I don't smoke cigs, but most of the other people i know who smoke weed as regularly as "not quite everyday" do.colinzeal wrote:Maybe she didnt smoke cigarettes. I'm not saying the smoke from other sources aren't harmful, just negligible in terms of heart damage compared to tobacco smoke and the other substances I listed.
I doubt she was a non-smoking, non-drinking, caffeine-free, healthy food nut who exercised as much as she could to have a heart attack at 30 something.
And I wasn't even disputing the fact that cannabis smoke contributed, only the fact that the pathologist put cannabis smoking as the direct cause.
you do not possess the facts of the case the pathologist did but do seem rather eager to dismiss any validity his report may contain, which is interesting considering the lack the insight into how the decision was made contained in this article. (which hasn't made it beyond the Manc Evening Post yet seemingly)
i think it is rather similar to how the alcohol drinking uk public reacted to being told by a scientist that cannabis was safer than booze. doubt you questioned David Nutt's reasoning with speculations.
"Most people I know" hardly gives a sound basis for calculating likelihoods.
And as I said, perhaps this lady didn't do anything else that causes heart damage other than smoking joints so the pathologist was justified in claiming it a direct cause. You do not know otherwise.

the oldest woman in the world was a cannabis smoker, and since she lived in thailand I would say she smoked pure....so people, smoke pure or dont complain about the problems caused by tobacco

I was trying to make a point that there are a whole lot of every day factors which effect the health of the heart, ergo unless she was the pinnacle of human health her death could not "directly" be attributed to cannabis smoking.colinzeal wrote:you do not possess the facts of the case the pathologist did but do seem rather eager to dismiss any validity his report may contain, which is interesting considering the lack the insight into how the decision was made contained in this article.
