Doody's Coffeeshop Report 2006

Post by Doody »

Just back from Holland, and a 10 day stay in Amsterdam!!!

I will have reviews in greater detail on individual coffeeshops in the regular part of the web-site, but will give all my best choices etc. here.

First off, sorry to those of you I couldn't meet at the Nes on the 6th. I was there earlier in the day and met D.C., also known as Dave. A very cool guy who set me up with the "Stella Blue," his favorite, and it was great!! Once again, thank you Dave, I had a great time there, signed "the book," sipped an t'IJ bier, caught a great buzz. Anyways, that evening I got caught down in the Leidseplein, did some jamming w/ Hans Dulfer at the Jazz Alto Cafe, weren't finished untill 1am, then had to head back to Bos en Lommer.

I also had the opportunity to meet the guru of this site, Lemming in person (see pic) at a performance I was doing for a radio broadcast at Cafe Tros. Needless to say, Lemming is a very cool dude. We hung and talked, had a bier, and unfortunately I had to leave right after the performnace for another one in Zevenaar, but our visit was very fun, and it was nice to put a face to the person after so many years of corresponding. Thank you so much Lemming, for coming all the way from London to hear my ass play, it was definately an honor.

Ok, here's the poop on the coffeeshop scene;

Tips;

The new "Barney's Lounge" (near Rembrandtplein) was closed for remodeling while I was there. Guy I talked to said, "At least two weeks."

Also closed for remodeling was "Bagheera" (next to Basjoe). The windows were all taped over with newspaper, and the door was locked, no signs.

Shop/Wiet Sampled

Risky Business/White Widow & Polm
De Kuil/puur joint (mixed wiet)
Greenhouse Centrum/Arjan's Haze #1
Dampkring/Silver Haze & NYC Diesel
Bluebird/G13 Haze
Rokerij III/White Shark
Cheech & Chong's/White Widow
Barney's/Willie Nelson - OG Kush (not on menu) - Caramella Cream hasj
Grey Area/Martian Mean Green
Het Ballonettje/Jack Herrer
Pink (Eindhoven)/Snue White & Puur Joint
Oude Church/Ice Skunk
La Tertulia/Orange puur joint
Cafe Nes/Stella Blue
Rokerij IV/Rokerij Haze #1

Ok, the results..............

Best Indica; by far was "Ice Skunk" from Oude Church. Amazing Buds!!! Mentionables; "OG Kush" from Barney's (not on the menu, ask for it) and "White Shark" from Rokerij.

Best Sativa was a tie; "Arjan's Haze #1" from Greenhouse, and "Martian Mean Green" from Grey Area. "Stella Blue" from Nes was outstanding as well, also "Rokerij Haze #1" from Rokerij.

Best New Shops Visited; "Cafe Nes" "Rokerij IV" and "La Tertulia"

The others were all very good as well, really had no disapointments this trip except for the "NYC Diesel" from Dampkring, just not what it used to be.

Once again look for my more detailed reviews under the individual shops,
and thank you Lemming and Dave!!!! Here's to next time!!!!!

round round get around you get around.

Bit of Beach Boys there in memory of the blazing hot day we had here yesterday (29 Celsius at it's peak which is unheard of in Scotland)

And also the fact that Doody went through shops like a hot knife through butter.

Anyway, looks like a fair bit of blazing went on while you were away. Well done for getting them all down.

Must have been some effort there.

Here’s the pic Doody mentioned above. The performance was great, by the way, and Doody plays a mean trumpet.

Sounded like a busy but enjoyable stay Doody, glad you found time to fit a fair few coffeeshops.

I really want to try both the Ice Skunk and White Shark you mentioned...just hoping they are still on the menu come end of july.

Thanks for the replies, yes it was a great trip as usuall, how could Holland not be, especially staying in Amsterdam. The "White Shark" seems to be a regular menu item now, was there 6 months ago as well. The "Ice Skunk" I am not sure of, first time I had this strain or even heard of it, but if people find out about this stuff I think it will become very popular, really just a spectacular Indica bud!!!

Thanks for posting the pic Lemming!!!

As promised, more detailed reviews will be posted under the individual shops, just getting them out now.
Have a great day!!!

I, Doody am on the left, and Lemming (seated) on the right.

Very cool guy, wish I had more time to spend hangin' w/ him. Look at this killer little slice of cyber-world he has developed for all of us.
Have a great day!!!

Just read the reports from Doody on the main page of this site - great detail in describing some of the shops, and I think I have added Cheech & Chong to the list of shops I am planning to visit...the name itself sounds great but a little more convinced after a good review.

Hey, thanks Valo, I will have several more reviews on the next post, can only get them out so fast. Yes, "Cheech & Chongs" is a fun little hang. Very much outside of the city center, but if you are in that part of town, or up for the adventure of finding it, you would have fun. Not the most spectacular menu or shop, but a true locals place as I said. I suggest a trip through Erasmus Park after your visit. Just go left out the front door, down Marco Polo Straat and you will run right into it.
Have a great day!!!
